Things we learned in August

There's leaps of faith, then there's shoves of faith: Kelly has stepped into the world of travel nursing! After tiptoeing around the idea for a while and signing on with an agency over a month ago, she has decided to take a chance and make a good positive change in her career. She's been ready to do something else, and though a little anxious about the future, we are both equally excited!

Sister dates are still awesome: We made several last month, including a trip to Lexington to check out a new Good will! What can we say...we're good company? :)

Travel is hard...not just on the traveler: Holly's boyfriend Justin made a trip back home (yes, as in home home to Australia) and his journey back included a delayed and a missed flight, a late night phone call to friends in Louisville, a night of little sleep, and  a round trip drive to Louisville and back. However, we are very thankful for his safe return and for the time he shared with his family.

Wineries are great. Wineries with friends are even better: We had the opportunity to spend a rainy afternoon with dear friends of ours at a winery in Versailles. Oh man...can't recommend it enough. And the company was lovely.

Patience, time and grace: Doctor's visits, a few appointments and Kelly's foot/ankle is starting to heal. It's going to take a lot of time, but it's getting there. There have been some good days and some bad days, but the good days are far outweighing the bad.

There's something for everyone! We introduced two friend to Charming Charlie's, a store in the mall beside Lexington. It's jewelry, purses, shoes, a little bit of clothes and it is fabulous! Each time we took each individual friend we were there over an hour! There's a bit of satisfaction knowing we found something that fits our friend's tastes.

30 Days of Writing: Five items you lust after

Kelly: I'm not going to "lust" after anything, because it's not a good thing to do. However, there are things that do catch my eye and tickle my fancy/things that I do want in the near future, so let's go with that!

1. Map of Middle Earth. They ARE at Walmart, but they were out when I was last there.

2. Dogs. Sis and I want one, but with the two cats and an apartment it makes it a bit difficult. Maybe someday soon.

3. Samsung Galaxy. New phone. Don't get me wrong; there's absolutely nothing wrong with my phone, but me thinks I'm ready for a more grown-up phone. I've asked around and this make seems to be good. Plus I've been using Samsung phones for years now and have loved every single one!

4. A new pair of comfy working shoes, which leads into...

5. A job. Please? But good things come to those who wait.

Holly: I don't like to fuss over material things.  But I do have some things in my future big-girl list.

1. A KitchenAid stand mixer.  OHMIGAWB.

2. A Mazda 3.  Have wanted one since high school.  They're so cute, and not terribly shabby on gas mileage either.

3. I don't really lust after this, but eventually I would like a tattoo of "Even darkness must pass" on my shoulder.  It's become sort of my daily phrase and it holds a great deal of personal significance to me.

4.  A new pair of Teva flip flops.  They're not expensive, and SO comfortable.  Just waiting for the right time, I suppose.

5. A smartphone.  Any one, really...at this point, since I'm out and about so much, it would just be nice to have.  For the time being, my dumb phone does the trick just fine.  :)

Relax, the end is nigh!

Kelly: The impending doom of finals is just around the corner. My first one isn't until Tuesday, so I still have some time. Lately though I've been feeling the end-of-the-semester crunch biting me in the bum. The most common sign is me being defiant; I just do not want to do anything. I've been getting more easily distracted, especially this week. It's becoming a bit bothersome because there's still stuff that I need to get done; hopefully this is just like I said, me just ready for the semester to be over. But, today was actually a really good day and I hope it will help me get over this "I don't want to do anything" funk and allow me to get through this semester.

The day started out with a brunch consisted of pancakes, turkey bacon and coffee with Holly and a friend of mine. We just talked, laughed and are all looking forward to the end!  When the morning was about to end, Holly received a phone call from some more dear friends who live in Lexington and wanted to spend some time with us. Of course, we said no problem; what made it greater was that another one of our friends was visiting for the weekend, so she was there too!! (You'll probably remember these dear friends from when they accompanied us to see Colin and Brad!!) We ended up venturing to a hibachi grill just about 15 minutes away. We had been there before, but Holly and I had never had their sushi. Man, it was DELICIOUS. Afterwards, I wanted ice cream so I spoke up and said I wanted ice cream, so we ventured to....Orangeleaf. Orangeleaf is a soft-serve chain and you pay by the # of ounces you fill your bowl with. It was great, and we all loved it! All in all, a good night, and I love my dear friends ever so much.

I cannot wait for this semester to be OVER!!!! 

Holly: But we didn't just eat awesome sushi/awesome frozen yogurt.  We played with puppies at PetSmart and bought shoes! Well...I did, anyway.  Kelly picked them out for me.  They're adorable. 

I too have been stricken with the defiance of I-don't-want-to-do-anything...I believe its common name is Senioritis with a minor onset of My Give-A-Crap is Waning!  But tonight was just what I needed: good food, cute critters, a new pair of adorable shoes, all with the best friends a girl could ever ask for!

This time tomorrow will mark the one-week countdown until home sweet home for three weeks! YAY! :D
