30 Days of Doctor Who: Favorite quote and favorite Doctor catchphrase

Kelly: So you have now realized that yes this is 30 days, but not 30 consecutive days. Haha. Anyway, with this we each picked our favorite "serious" so called quote and then our favorite funny one. So enjoy.

"We're all stories in the end. Just make it a good one."

Though it's from my least favorite season of the show, this was one of my favorites. In the scene where he speaks this, The Doctor is talking to a sleeping young Amy, putting her to bed and telling her of her new life, all the while knowing that she'll forget him, as time has been rewritten. It makes me think about where my story is heading, and if I'm doing my best to be the person that God wants me to be. I sometimes wonder how my story will end; with God or elsewhere? Only He knows that. And I am trying my hardest to make my story a good one, as he would say. Challenge accepted for some of you readers I presume. And now for the funny bit.

"Do you know why? Because you're so thick! You're Mister Thick Thick Thickety Thick Face from Thicktown, Thickania. And so is your dad."

Oy. Had to pull up the transcript to make sure I got it right. This silly blunder is from one of my favorite episodes, The Girl in the Fireplace, and to me it shows 10's silliness along with his "charm," if you want to call it that. But ahhh, we love him so. He has so many funny one liners.

Holly: Guys, this show has some KICK. BUTT. writing.  I mean, woah.  I have waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy too many favorite quotes.  But I'll be good and do my two-part.

"We all change, when you think about it.  We're all different people, all through our lives, and that's ok, that's good!  You've got to keep moving, so long as you remember all the people you used to be." 

So....yeah, I love this quote.  We hear this from Eleven literally as he's about to regenerate.  Talk about irony, huh?  SAD and wonderful irony.  I am so thankful that I am not the person I used to be, but oftentimes I think of where I was and who I used to be...what a difference!  A good one, though.  Sometimes we just want to blaze through life and forget about all the stupid stuff we did, the bad choices we made, the things we didn't say, what have you.  I think, in order for us as people to move forward, we have to humble ourselves and remember that we weren't always where we are now, and usually, at least in my experience, it's for the best.

"Excuse me, do you mind not farting while I'm trying to save the world?"

Let's face it, Nine doesn't get much love.  Which is a shame, in my opinion.  This line is gold.  Solid gold.  Every time I watch that ep I always have to go back and rewind that part.

And I think our favorite catchphrase is a phrase that should be used in everyday common speech.

30 Days of Doctor Who: Funniest and scariest episode

Holly: I'm being scandalous and combining days again.  Deal with it.  :P

There are a ton of funny episodes in my opinion...Doctor Who really is quite funny, and I was surprised at first.  Now I just kind of expect humor at some point, even if it's just a chuckle.  One funny ep that sticks out to me is "Aliens of London", which is waayy back in season 1 with Nine.  What makes it funny to me is that it features the Slitheen, which are just an absolutely ridiculous alien species.  Ridiculous.  It also is littered with excellent one-liners, my favorite one being "Excuse me, do you mind not farting while I'm saving the world?" In fact there's quite a few fart jokes thrown in there.  I'm so mature, I know.  It's just so silly and ridiculous and unexpected that it's funny.  I enjoy it, personally.  But that's just me.

Now, scariest, and I think this is a tie for Kelly and I.  

"Blink."  Hands down.  Features the Weeping Angels, which we've mentioned in earlier posts.  This is the episode in which they first appear.  Oh my gosh.  It's creepy, but not like Psycho cut-people-up creepy.  Creepy as in sends-a-little-tingle-down-your-spine creepy.  The last time I watched it, I was by myself, which is something I do not recommend.  If you're new to the Who fandom, "Blink" tells the story of Sally Sparrow who receives a message from The Doctor (not heavily featured in this episode) from 1969 warning her of the Weeping Angels.  "Don't blink," a recorded video message says, "Don't even blink.  Blink and you're dead."  Through it all she encounters the Weeping Angels and even finds herself in the TARDIS (oh my gosh that scene freaks me out.  SPOILERS).  It's a bloody brilliant episode.  But it is legit scary.  And Sally Sparrow is awesome.

Kelly: I really won't add too much, except that I LOVE New Earth as a funny one! New Earth was the 10th Doctor's and Rose's first adventure together where they travel to New New York and discover some not so good things going on. I will post a video at the end of this as to why I think it's so freaking funny. However, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship from Season 7 was rather amusing too. Granted, the plot was downright awful but the dialogue was great and there were so many great one liners! Definitely one I'm going to go back to if I have a really crappy day. Often with this show, I sit and wonder how in the world these writers come up with what they do. It's freaking brilliant! This show has some of the best writing; funny, sad, heart breaking and heart warming. Sometimes all in one episode. Anywho, that's about all. The video below is when evil lady Cassandra possesses the 10th Doctor. She has quite a few choice words to say about her new body...quite humorous. Enjoy. :)

30 Days of Writing: A quote you try to live by

Kelly: "Practice gratitude and joy. Love with your whole heart, even if there is no guarantee."

To be honest, I don't even know where I saw this quote for the first time. I think it was somewhere at one of my many clinical sites. Even though it is pertinent to my future career, I think that it applies to anywhere in life. It's something I try to do, even if I'm not having the greatest day, but I used this quote actually today. Sis and I were eating lunch at Subway and a lady on a scooter was trying to get into the door but was having a hard time opening it. Without hesitating I got up from my seat and opened the door so she could get in. There were two guys who were closer to the door that didn't even move. It's not hard, people. It's about being aware. There are those who are less fortunate than us right at our doorstep.

Holly: "But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow.  Even darkness must pass.  A new day will come.  And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer."

This quote from Lord of the Rings has impacted me strongly, and it hits me differently every time I watch the movie.  The second time I watched the movies a lot of my loved ones were going through some rough times, and the words "even darkness must pass" just sort of became my mantra.  It still is, kind of.  I find myself saying it often when bad times come our way.  I try to live by it because it helps me to remember that we all are going through darkness, but it does pass and we do move forward and learn from it and become stronger from it.  And guess what? Things have gotten better for me, and things are getting better for my loved ones.
