Schtuff Twin girls say: Volume 6

Off we pop with some more funnies!

Holly: She sounds like Lady Gaga with a cold. I heard that song on the radio today. "I'M SO FAAAAANCY." Iggy...Petunia I think.
Kelly: I thought it was Iggy Azalea.

Kelly: (after Holly said something not so nice. Not inappropriate. Just not nice) Holly. Say something else. That's not a nice word.
Holly: ....Trees

Kelly: So if I wanted a cup of hot chocolate but then put it in the fridge, wouldn't that just be chocolate milk?
Holly: ...that's deep.

Holly: I think Malcolm Tucker would be a good psych patient.

Holly: (talking about King Solomon). I think it's fair to say he fell off the wagon.
Kelly: Actually, he pitched himself off the wagon and the wagon ran him over.

(a typed conversation)
Holly: That is my pick. !
Kelly: ~
Kelly: Q crap! (I was trying to type !)
Holly: lol whaaaa?
Kelly: !
Holly: UMQRA?

Holly: I just really want to get fat and bake stuff this weekend.

Kelly: Sonic tater tots make me weak!

Kelly: (while watching a classic Doctor Who) O Dalek, my Dalek.

Holly: Why is it called Banana Republic? Why not, like, Watermelon Republic or something?

Kelly: Can someone please give Peter Capaldi a BAFTA?
Holly: I think he already has one?
Kelly: Well, give him another one!

Holly: Yoda is sleeping on your wrist brace. (a few minutes later) Maybe the cats sleep on our things so they can feel close to us. Like when you're dating a guy in high school and you sleep in his hoodie or something.
Kelly: So...Yoda wants to be close to my smelly, sweaty disgusting wrist brace?
Holly: Precisely.

Holly: (while making brownies) I just snorted pumpkin pie spice.

Holly: Yoda always seems so excited after using the litter box. She just runs out.
Kelly: I peed!

Kelly: (while petting Wiley) Hi there, pretty girl. (Holly realized my mistake)
Holly: Uh...that's Wiley.
Kelly: (in pet voice) I sorry, handsome boy. (He purred)

Kelly: Can we go see for KING & COUNTRY now?

Holly: (while driving to ALEP) Uh...we're 1.7 miles away and there's still no food.

Holly: (carrying Wiley out of the garage) Wiley, you are a vast expanse of cat.

Kelly: (while hiking, to the tune of "Hey Jude"). Hey dude....don't wanna fall.

Kelly: Have you ever heard-
Holly: No. Probably not.

Kelly: (to Holly regarding twitter). You have the best hashtags.

Bonus from our dad:
Kelly: You say potato, I say potahto.
Dad: If anyone pronounces it that way I don't want to be their friend.

Three cheers for H and K!!

Holly: Ach!! That magical all-elusive date has come and gone again!  How time just seems to march right on by.

Yesterday was August 20th, THE THREE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF OUR BLOG!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D YAAAAHHHOOOOOOYAAAAAAYYY!!!

I still can't believe we're chuggin' along, and that we are.  They say "what a difference a year can make" and what a year it has been!  It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating 2 years of this blogosphere of wonder and now here we are again, 3 years strong.  3 years of not running out of stuff to talk about.  Imagine that! So much has happened this year and we still have so much more to look forward to!

I think we're going to keep at it.  In fact, there is no "I think"; we ARE going to keep at it.  Thank you all, once again, for chuggin' along with us.  Here's to many more years!

Kelly: Trying to type this with a kitty on my lap (a Yoda kitty to be more specific) will be most interesting. Like I say every year when this comes up, I never thought it would make it another year. This has been the first full year of our lives we are both working "full time" and neither one of us are in school. It's been fun and awesome and by far the most crazy! Hard to believe how fast the time seems to go, and it feels like this year went by the fastest. But yeah. 3 years. This blog idea was born after the two of us came home from our respective abroad endeavors and decided this would be not only fun for us but a bonding experience too. We have enjoyed coming back to this blog, even though we haven't been able to post as much in a while, but still. This isn't just for us, but all of our readers too. We want this to be a safe place to read our thoughts and to explore your own thoughts on the topic at hand. We don't do this to get it out there and see how many people will follow it in one day, no.

That's one of the great things about this blog and the fact we write it together; there's always something to talk about! Often I see stuff on the news or hear something on the radio and still after all this time tell myself "that would be good to blog about." And we do this too with conversations we have. So there you have it. Three years! Here's to hoping we'll have a four year post next year!

August 20, 2011- date of blog launch

August 20, 2012- one year after blog launch
August 21, 2013- two years and one day after blog launch
Today! August 21, 2014- three years and one day after blog launch.  With Yoda :)

Getting to Know us!

A friend of ours posted a challenge by a friend of hers, titled "Getting to know me." So here's ours! :D

1. What is a nickname only your family calls you?
Kelly: Opal. Well, only my dad calls me that. It started when I was a kid. Still stuck
Holly: My dad calls me H, which has been a recent thing.  H-bomb when I was younger.

2. What is a weird habit of yours?
Kelly: If I remember it I'll put it on here.
Holly: I chew on the insides of my cheek (gross, I know).  I still bite my nails too.  It's probably why I'm still single :P

3. Do you have any weird phobias?
Kelly: Stinging bugs. Any of them. I am pretty sure I'm borderline phobic of them. When I grew up if there was one in my bedroom I couldn't kill it because I was too scared. This stemmed after I got stung by a wasp under my nose when I was a kid. And after one that I squished stung me on my foot. And after stepping on a bee in the garage while I was washing my parent's car.
Holly: I am terrified of breaking down in Lexington.  This isn't a joke either.  Cray cray drivers up there.  Ok, this may be a joke, so I wouldn't go so far as to call it a phobia.  I don't really have any phobias, but I am afraid of falling.  Yes, that is different than being afraid of heights.

4. What is a song you secretly like to blast to when you are alone?
Kelly: I still now and then listen to N*SYNC and Backstreet Boys. Not ashamed whatsoever.
Holly: "Fix My Eyes" by for KING & COUNTRY is pretty much default nowadays.  And not a secret! I like "Pompeii" by Bastille, although the premise is really sad.  And if "What's Love Got to Do With It", oh, it's on.  I have others, but I'd like to maintain some of my dignity ;)

5. What is one of your biggest pet peeves?
Kelly: Close-mindedness. Bottom line.
Holly: I have several, unfortunately, but one that really grinds my gears is drivers that don't use a turn signal.  AAAGGHHH!!

6. What's one of your nervous habits?
Kelly: Fidgeting, that's the most common one. Also, I act really stupid/giggly.
Holly: Bouncing my legs when I'm sitting.  Used to drive my mom nuts.

7. What side of the bed do you sleep on?
Kelly: My bed is a twin bed, but when I'm out or in a bigger bed, usually the right side.
Holly: My left, your right, depending on your perspective :)

8. What was your first stuffed animal and what was its name?
Kelly: It didn't have a name, but it was this raggedy bear with googly eyes. It was our brother's and (I think) our mom's too. It's at our Ohio house. I think at one point it was called Ginger.
Holly: I can't remember my first stuffed friend, but I have one from when I was 7 that I still sleep with: a ratty terrier-looking dog from the Columbus Zoo.  I call her Ashley.  She's been lots of places.

9. What's the drink you always order at Starbucks?
Kelly: Either a grande cafe vanilla frappucino or grande cafe espresso frappucino. Then the usual pumpkin spice when they're in season.
Holly: Pumpkin spice latte when they're around, no questions.  Other than that, either a grande cafe vanilla frappucino, a grande valencia orange refresher with vanilla, or a blonde roast with cream and sugar. Sometimes I like a caramel apple spice.  As you can tell, I frequent Starbucks :)

10. Which way do you face the shower?
Kelly: Uhhhhhh...I'm not really sure how to answer this question. So I suppose I will say no comment.
Holly: I reject this question and substitute my own.  Which....I will think of later.

11. Do you have any weird body skills?
Kelly: This question made me LOL. But no. No I don't.
Holly: Kelly didn't mention it, but we can do this silly foot dance thing that our mom taught us.  Ask us about it sometime!

12. What is your favorite comfort food that you know is bad but you eat it anyway?
Kelly: Chocolate. ANYTHING chocolate.
Holly: Well, I just finished a bowl of Edy's mint cookie crunch, so.......

13. What is a phrase or exclamation you always say?
Kelly: Either "Allons-y, Allonso!" or "Oh my glob." If I really sat down and thought about it then I could think of more.
Holly: If I hear something awesome or crazy, I say "get out."  Actually, it's more like "GET OUT!" Kelly has been on the receiving end of this quite often.

14. What do you wear when you go to sleep?
Kelly: Sometimes my scrub pants from work. I only have one actual set of PJ's. But usually just whatever.
Holly: Usually just a big t-shirt and a pair of shorts.  Cute PJ pants when it gets cooler :)

15. What did you used to wear that you thought was cool, and now you realize it wasn't?
Kelly: Oh my gosh, does anybody remember those fugly plastic shoes/sandals from the 90's? Totally had a pair of those. HACK.
Holly: Not really so much "wearing", but when I was in high school I used to wear a ton of eye makeup.  You know, the black mascara, black eyeliner, metallic eyeshadow.  I was so into it, and looking through old pictures now a few years later it just looks terrible.  I rarely wear makeup now, but when I do I prefer the natural approach.

Potpurri post #8

Kelly: Realized: we have not done one of these since February. It's a general consensus that we share just some of the things that have been going on in our lives. We put the Christmas tree up a few days ago; Wiley keeps trying to eat it. Ever since we've been at our current house, Yoda does this adorable thing when she smells something unusual; we call it grinning. Last night I got home from work and she grinned after smelling my feet. Twice. Annnnnnnnnnnd....the litter box reeks again. Lovely.

I woke up this morning to a voice mail from my nurse manager, reminding me of a 4 hour medication class I will be attending this Thursday in the morning, on top of working my regularly scheduled shift. The circumstances as to why I am taking that class are of no importance, but yeah. Happy Monday to me....hahaha I'm teasing. I was half expecting a "hey can you come in and work today" voice mail. It was a pretty slow weekend at work; our census is low again, so yay! And now Wiley is trying to climb on my arm; we had a nice cuddle this afternoon when I was watching Titanic. Oh yeah, and I'm giving blood tomorrow. Yippee!! That's about all to report; nothing really on. One last thing; WE'RE GOING TO OHIO FOR THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!! :D

Holly: Did you know that crayfish spit? Yep, I didn't either, until it happened to me today.  Moooving on...

Guess that's a good sign work is going well.  I've been there just a tad over 3 months now, and a sure-fire sign that I'm used to the early mornings is that on weekends, I'm wide awake by 9:30.  Granted, I don't get out of bed until 10ish.  But still.   What I wouldn't give for my college glory days of sleeping in until 11-11:30, sometimes noon.

SMAUG IS COMING IN 25 DAYS!!!!!!!!  It's beginning to get ridiculous how excited we are.

Kelly is now showing me a YouTube hack: Apparently, if you type "1980" after pausing a video it turns into a game sort of thing where you have to protect your video from flying missiles.  Aaannnd, this is probably why we're still single.  hahahahahahaha

One last thing, I reckon: I am super stoked for Thanksgiving.  A week from Wednesday we'll be on the road (well, it's 8:40 at night so hopefully we'll be at home...) in Ohio visiting our mom and dad and brother, and possibly our grandparents.  We haven't been to Ohio in almost a year, and seen our grandparents in over 2.  I know that doesn't seem like a lot of time, but we're a close family.  That's one of the crappy things about growing up; you don't get to see your family that much.  It's funny- working in academia, you look forward to the breaks as much as the students do.

Please enjoy this picture of Yoda that I just love so much!! :) Hope life is treating you all well.

Yoda says hello

Happy (belated) birthday blog!!!!

Holly: Ladies and germs, we are totally stoked to announce that yesterday (August 20th...we're a day late, ya know.  Jobs and stuff) was the 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE LAUNCH OF THIS BLOG!!!!!!!! :D *insert cheesy applause*

It still amazes me that it's still going strong.  We recently launched it on Facebook and, personally, I love sharing our posts there.  Facebook is a great platform.  But once again, we're not concerned about how many followers we have, how many comments we get- we just love writing and sharing life with people.  So if you like what you read, great.  If you want to leave a comment, great.  If not, we're going to keep writing, even if we just keep writing into nothingness.

Life has changed for me so much in just the past month alone that I simply am beyond eager to see where this time next year will bring me.  I thank God every day for what I have.  I dearly appreciate all of you who do follow along with us on this crazy journey called life.  So keep having your coffee dates, keep seeking the joy in your life, keep praying, keep having faith, keep laughing, smiling, breathing, living! :)

Kelly: In 2 year's time, we both have graduated from college, moved twice, met Colin and Brad, got into Lord of the Rings and Sherlock, went through 3 roommates, adopted two cats, lost a friend (not by death but by other choices), lost our Grandpa, had a slew of jobs and downfalls and now have landed full-time (well...sort of for me) jobs and a lot of goodies in between.

WOW!!!!

It's surreal and amazing at how fast the time goes. Really. It's incredible! Like Holly said, we've done this for the last two years not to get "fans" or likes, to gain readers as fast as we can or ask for a slew of comments and shares. No. We do this for us and all of you! It has been our goal for us to discuss a topic so that someone out there can read it and say "yes! I've been there" or "well, not exactly, but this is what I think about it." The comments, views, shares and likes don't matter to us at all! I must say, it has been a blast looking back what has gone on in our lives the past 2 years. The growths, challenges and developments we have gained has been nothing other. We are humbled and blessed that there are many of you going on this journey with us! Thank you all so much for ANOTHER year! Here's to two more and many to come!

August 2011: Taken shortly after publishing our very first post.

August 2012: Taken one year exactly after the publication of our very first post.

August 2013: Taken 2 years and one day exactly after publication of first post.  We look sleepy :]

Schtuff twin girls say, volume 2

Holly and Kelly: Figure we would make this a regular habit.  Guaranteed laugh.  Enjoy.

"And that makes 4 loads of laundry. (Starts singing). 4 loads of laundry and a partridge in a pear tree. HEEEEEY MACARENA." ~Kelly

"I KNOW DOLLAR OFF DEALS END TOMORROW, OLD NAVY! I WORK THERE!" ~Holly (while reading her email)

Kelly: This is weird, but sometimes I just crave cream cheese.  I think I may have pica or something.
Holly: Lol.  At least you're not eating your computer.

driving home from Richmond:
"UK was saying.....yellow car!" ~Kelly

"Your phone is done.  Please uncharge it."  ~Kelly, to Holly

Kelly: I'll probably watch it on my lunc break....lunc break? Wow.
Holly: Lunc break? *laughing*
Kelly: Wow, I quit at talking.
Holly: That would be interesting.

Kelly: And I can't watch BBT (Big Bang Theory) at lunch.
Holly: Why?
Kelly: Because Martin Freeman didn't win an Emmy.
Holly: Oh.
Kelly: And there's a workshop.

(reading Jeopardy clues):
Holly: Three words that translates to "Ireland forever."
Kelly: Beer.

"My desktop thermometer is broken." ~Holly

(While eating an Aero bar)
Kelly: These would be good in a Blizzard.
Holly:...STOP!

(Eating a potato side for dinner)
Kelly: PO TAY TOES!!!! Boil em mash em stick em in a stew.
Holly: Potatoes. Get in my belly.

I'm pretty sure if the Pope walked into Domino's, his order would be the most important. Does the Pope even eat pizza? -Holly

If I got elected into an important office and they told me I could eat whatever I want, I would say I would like a large piece of cheesecake and a Mountain Dew, please. -Kelly

(in regards to a job application)
Holly: Apparently I applied within the last 180 days and I gave the wrong answers.
Kelly: There's wrong answers in a job application?????

(while talking on Google talk)
Kelly: I just did something really bad.
Holly: Oh dear. What happened, sis?
Kelly: I went to CPO to get stamps....and I got a Stella Jane's donut. And I'm not sorry.

Kelly (to our mom): It's like when you come here I forget how to be a big girl.

Holly: This is really good dinner. I guess I was hungrier than I thought.
Kelly (stuffed up nose with about 1/4 of food left on plate):...I can't breathe.

BONUS FROM OUR MOM:
"Plushie Bilbo is cuter in real life."

(picking Kelly up from clinicals):
"You smell like bacon." -Holly

Air 1 March "Madness"

Holly and Kelly: We listen to Air 1, which is a Christian alternative radio station.  Check it out sometime (107.1 if you live in the Berea/Lexington area! :D) Earlier this week one of the dj's started this contest, which is a spoof on the March Madness basketball craze, and needless to say, we got a kick out of it and couldn't resist sharing.  Let us know if you want in on this, or if you're curious as to what has our votes.

Enjoy this bit of fun...and the warmer weather that seems to be sticking around for a bit.

Potpurri post #7

Holly: Dryer just finished.......hurrah, my life is so exciting! lol.

I've started on a bit of a painting expedition; I'm working on a hobbit hole.  For those of you that are Facebook friends with me, I will keep posting pictures of my progress, but for those of you that aren't, I will post a picture of the finished result.  I'm quite enjoying it...I used to have an artistic side when I was younger but it sort of went dormant after high school/into college.  Kind of nice to rekindle lost arts; sorry for the pun!

We just spent the weekend with some friends; a few we hadn't seen in over a year.  It was nice to get back together and laugh and be stupid, just like old times.  Since I'm not working every day and the last few of my Berea friends are graduating in May I'm going to do my best to be a campus frequenter and just hang out with some good people.  Good coffee is optional.  Speaking of working, yes, I am still at Old Navy.  My three month review is coming up soon, hopefully I will be getting more hours.  In previous posts I mentioned quitting, but it's amazing how God takes your situations and changes them for the better.  While I am still looking for more full time work (and honestly, I hate to play this card, but something that pays a little bit better), I fully intend upon staying at Old Navy for as long as possible, even if it's just working on weekends. The people are SO wonderful and the atmosphere is fun and energetic.  So if any of you wayward travelers happen to stumble in the Hamburg Pavilion area in Lexington, swing by...I'm usually in the back in the fitting room. ;)

Life is just really really swell right now.  I'm optimistic about the future and some kind of big changes that are coming, but yeah...just learning to trust God, make the most of what's given to us, and just relaxing and enjoying each day that we're given.  I guess I should go make the bed.  I'm slowly turning into an almost 23-year-old housewife.

Kelly: I'm sitting at work right now, trying to get together music for the nursing pinning ceremony. I heard a consensus about a few things and then it was just ;ewrgkjads;lgkjaeoriu49p38q759348utaj;ogklj;ldsfkjga;gj;s;dlfkja;slkdfja;slkdjfas;ldkfj. Hurrah for clarification emails!

Anyway, so that's been fun. It's these little things that are reminding me that I am almost done with this college thing! It's fun, it's sad, it's scary, but it's exciting overall! Tomorrow we're going to order our pinning ceremony scrubs!! Clinicals have been rather tiring; I'm halfway done on Thursday and I get my wonderful midterm evaluation. I've learned a lot, come home with some wet shoes, met some awesome people, and learned things about myself that I never thought I knew. So yeah. Wish me luck! And we're in the process of moving in May! More space and awesome people. You know, despite the somewhat craziness going on, I really can't complain. I can't. God has been really good to me. Sure there have been quite a few bumps down this road, but I can see the light at the end of this tunnel! He has gotten me this far and He'll carry me until the end! It's close; it's really close! Ok, enough about that. So much else to look forward to soon! That's all I have for now. Cheers all

Updated 2/19/13: As promised by Holly, the finished Hobbit hole! :)

Schtuff twin girls say

Holly and Kelly: A while back ago, Holly and I were talking about the fact that we sometimes say some utterly stupid and ridiculous things that really make us laugh. I don't remember which one of us suggested it, but it was suggested that we keep a list of some of these silly/stupid things and post them on a blog to make us laugh. So here you have it; a collective list of our funnies over the last almost month or so:

"You rolled over, Yoda. I'm so proud of you!"  ~Holly

Kelly: No emails for the last 2 hours.
Holly: That's an abomination.

"Richard Armitage sort of looks like Jesus."  ~Holly

"No. Nursing students only. You're not allowed in the club." (Kelly's response when Holly asked to go to a lunch with a convo speaker the dept sponsored.)

Holly: Haven't seen the ice cream lady van in a while.
Kelly: It's winter.
Holly: Yeah.  But ice cream is good anytime.

"I think your boots gave me shin splints." ~Kelly

"No, Google, I do not want to open 24 tabs." ~Holly

"DO NOT. THROW. THE CAT!" ~Holly

"I could be a dwarf.  I can sing.  I took archery.  I like food.  Let's do this!" ~Holly

"I don't like Motor Pool minivans.  They give me panic attacks." ~Kelly

"Go make me a brownie. I'm doing homework." ~Kelly

"I am the reason we can't have nice things." ~Holly

after roommate suggested she should probably do her dance workout:
Kelly: I should probably do...a lot of things.
Holly: I should probably just stop being awesome.

"Stop...with your cake." ~Holly

"Don't have clinicals! I want to watch Phantom of the Opera!" ~Holly

"Don't talk to me about poop.  Or breaks." ~Kelly

"I'm afraid of taxes, the IRS...IRA...whatever they are, that they're going to kick down the door and be like 'YOU'RE FULL OF CRAP, HOLLY KORB, AND WE'RE GOING TO AUDIT YOU!!!!!'" ~Holly

Holly about a new British soap-opera esque show that we've started watching: "It's my new guilty pleasure, I swear.  Suddenly I'm a 40-year-old British housewife."

"A camera should follow us around for a week. That would stop reality TV." ~Holly

(watching Lion King): James Earl Jones just needs to narrate my life. At all times.  ~Holly

"ERRRRRRRRRRRRFFFFFFFFFFFFF!" ~Kelly

"I quit at life." ~Kelly, during fits of clinical, fatigue-induced delirium

"Oh, I'm sorry, I just infested you with my sick!" ~Holly, taking a bite of Kelly's food

Kelly: What are you making?
Holly: Peas, pig and pasta. (pig= pork chops, just for clarification)
Kelly: Oh. Do you need help with the peas, pig and pasta?
Holly: Nope.
Kelly: Did you get that off Pinterest?

"I can't use my food stamps because Martin Freeman didn't win an Emmy." ~Kelly

(Holly, while licking the bowl after making cupcakes) "You know how everyone is rooting for the 49ers and the Ravens...you know what I'm rooting for? My waistline."

"Who cares about aesthetics? Get in my belly!" ~Holly while making food

"I don't want to hear anything about you all being hungry. I spent $120 on food today!" ~Kelly
"Hey Kelly....I'm hungry." ~Holly

(roommate shows a picture of Kili) "Ehhh...I don't really think he's all that attractive." ~Holly
"But I wouldn't object if he showed up at the apartment." ~Kelly
(about a minute later) "I wouldn't object if any of the dwarves showed up at the apartment." ~Kelly

"I did not spend 5 years of college to wear a pink stole!" ~Kelly

"Kelly, I am NOT putting $8 jeans on layaway!" ~Holly

"Sometimes when life sucks, just remember that cupcakes were invented." ~Kelly

"They should just rename the next 'Star Trek' movie to 'Benedict Cumberbatch.'" ~Holly

Funny Animals Talking

Holly and Kelly: Yet again, we aim to tickle your funny bone with this video that first appeared on Facebook this morning.  We've watched it numerous times and it's still making us laugh.  Enjoy.

"Dwarf" Invasion

Holly and Kelly: We are still deep in the trenches of the Hobbit fandemonium, so imagine our utter giddiness when we stumbled across this gem of musical happiness.  If it doesn't make you laugh (which it does for us, on many occasions) then we hope it will, at the very least, bring a smile to your face.

The band is from Wellington, NZ, by the way.

A Dog's Perspective (Really Makes You Think...)

Holly: So there is this country (1/2 of this blogging duo has been there!)

Where there is this band

Which features this guy

Whom you probably recognize as Pippin from Lord of the Rings

Anyway (ha, that was fun!), Kelly and I stumbled across them recently and while Kelly was busy being all student and stuff, I listened to their most recent album.  Which opens with the track below.  But it isn't a song.  It's a monologue, written from the perspective of (I'm going to assume...) a dog.  I had to listen to it a couple of times to get all the words, but for some reason it really made me think. It's poetic, almost...poetry. What do you think?

*P.S. I copied these words by ear, so I apologize if they aren't completely correct*

"Dog's Waltz"

I dreamt I was a dog
Running through pale through the long wet grass
Enjoying every moment as it came and went

Not a second of my existence spent worrying about a future I knew nothing about
I laid panting on some cool concrete
And watched the humans busily rushing back and forth, shouting, crying, laughing in a language I didn't understand
Trying to stick to the five-year plans
Buying and selling, hoping their second house investment was a good one
Fighting wars for oil or land, or because their God is a better God, a vengeful God, the only God
And I close my eyes...
When I wake, I find a stick

And I busy myself throwing it around, enjoying the stick for all that it is
Then I see another dog with a better stick, and I think "I might fight him for it"
Maybe I'm evolving

Question this! Yeah, we're pretty BORED!!!

Holly: A bajillion people have done this little questionnaire that we're about to do.  Figured we'd give it a whirl...heck, you might learn a thing or two about this dynamic duo.  :)

When were you happiest? I'm generally a happy person.  I suppose one instance is when I learned that the D+ on my transcript wasn't going to ruin my chances of graduating from college.

What is your greatest fear? Stagnancy (i.e. not changing, growing, progressing in life, etc).  And disappointing the ones I'm closest to.

What is your earliest memory? Watching my brother ride his gigantic black plastic bike down our driveway.  I was maybe 3 or 4.

Which living person do you admire most and why? It's always the answer given, but my folks, because not only are they incredibly hard-working, but amazingly supportive and caring.  They believe in even my craziest dreams.  And my academic adviser I had in college, because he dealt with a lot of stuff and still managed to inspire me and challenge me in ways I could have never imagined.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? I'm not as confident as I let on.

What is the trait you most deplore in others? Dishonesty and close-mindedness.

What was your most embarrassing moment? I peed my pants in front of my gym class when I was in second grade.  I had to interrupt my mom's class so she could get me some clothes to change into.

What makes you unhappy? The fact that people are just downright nasty to one another.

What do you most dislike about your appearance? I break out like nobody's business.  Thank God for Mary Kay!

What is your guiltiest pleasure? Oh geez...."crap telly", any sweets, Sherlock/Hobbit/LoTR tumblr pages

What is your most unappealing habit? Speaking before thinking

What's the worst thing anyone has ever said to you? I'm pretty sure someone (they will remain unnamed) called me a "slut" once in high school.

Which words or phrases do you overuse? "I know, right?"

What has been your biggest disappointment? Not being able to find a job that I can use my degree with.  I suppose that's more of a frustration than a disappointment.

If you could edit your past, what would you change? I would say "I love you" more.  And listen to my parents.

What is the closest you've come to death? Not necessarily death, by any means, but I passed out when I was 12 and was out for over 30 seconds.  It just felt like sleeping.  As scary as the aftermath was, it was quite peaceful.

What single thing would improve the quality of your life? Seeking God.  Always and everywhere.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? My degree from Berea hanging up in my living room.

What keeps you awake at night? My neighbors and their fireworks, job-related stuff, Yoda meowing at the door, friends of mine going through rough times, those I love back in Ohio...

What song would you like played at your funeral? "Into the West"

How would you like to be remembered? That I made someone's life better just by me being in it, and that I did my best to live like Christ.

Tell us a secret.  I once dreamt that Martin Freeman showed up at my apartment.  We had tea, and amazingly I didn't manage to scare him off.  It was lovely.  Also, I want a corgi.

Kelly: Ok, now it's my turn. I'm an open freaking book people. Seriously.

When were you happiest? Stepping off the plane after landing in Glasgow. I was on a red-eye flight and horribly jet lagged, but that day was officially the farthest I've been away from home by myself. I will never forget that moment.

What is your greatest fear? Getting stuck in a job that I will grow to hate but will start out loving.

What is your earliest memory? I have the same memory as Holly, but another one I have was when I was  in kindergarten. I stuck one of those plastic wiggly eyes up my nose.

Which living person do you admire most and why? I have a few, but the one on my mind now is a friend who is going through hell right now, yet he still manages to keep the faith. If I were in his shoes I don't know if I would be as strong as he is. Praying for you, friend.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? I'm kind of loud sometimes.

What is the trait you most deplore in others? Close-mindedness

What was your most embarrassing moment? I was on a Med/Surg floor for clinicals. I had opened a patient's medications out of the packets and put them in the medicine cup. Reached to scratch my nose without even thinking and the meds went everywhere. My instructor made me call the pharmacy to order more. Learned a good lesson that day.

What makes you unhappy? The fact that our country is so admirable to many others, yet we have one of the worst violence and death rates among newborns. It's disgusting.

What do you most dislike about your appearance? My smile, to be honest. It's a long story.

What is your guiltiest pleasure? The dreams I have. Nothing PG-13 or R, just wild and stupid but they make me happy.

What is your most unappealing habit? Belching. Usually happens after I drink a lot of Coke or Dr. Pepper

What is the worst thing anyone has ever said to you? There was this one girl in high school. Said some horrible things about me. She knows who she is, but I've forgiven her.

Which words or phrases do you overuse? Turd

What has been your biggest disappointment? That after almost 3 years my ankle is still bothering me and that I've been to half a dozen specialists who claim to "know it all."

If you could edit your past, what would you change? I'd go back to Feb. 2010 and NOT WEAR HEELS TO CHURCH.

What is the closest you've come to death? Passed out from heatstroke in 7th grade. I turned a not nice shade of blue around my mouth. Bit of not good.

What single thing would improve the quality of your life? To quote The Good Book: Peace that surpasses all understanding

What do you consider your greatest achievement? Coming so close to completing a college degree, considering when I was younger there were so many who thought I couldn't.

What keeps you awake at night? Things people tell me, my friends and what they're going through, my parents and what they're doing

What song would you like played at your funeral? See Holly's answer, and a few others.

How would you like to be remembered? I'd like to be remembered as not being perfect but a positive energy with a contagious personality.

Tell us a secret I don't eat milk in my cereal. The very thought of wet cereal makes me sick to my stomach. Haven't eaten it that way since I was a kid.

Potpurri post #6

Kelly: To start this post, I would like to point out that it is 11:30 and I am still in my PJ's! Goodness I love Christmas break already. Also, I would like to mention that today is my parents 31st Anniversary!!! :] <3 I hope that one day I can find somebody who can put up with me for that long. But yeah; even after 31 years it is so evident that my parents are still crazy about each other. Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad! I got my final grades on Tuesday; not bad...didn't fail anything but still got one C. The rest were A's and B's. At first I was rather upset because I always think I can do better, but hey, I actually did try. I utilized excellent work/study habits and for my nursing classes it paid off! I scored the highest on my two nursing finals than I ever had before! Must have done something right! So yay me. Ok now I'm done bragging about myself.

The world didn't end yesterday as it was said to. Obviously. If we all went back to the simple truths from Scripture, then there wouldn't be this problem in the first place (for reference please refer to Matthew 24:36). It just irritates me that so many people bought into this whole world ending thing. I mean really? Ok, suit yourself; I'm going to stick with the truth and what I actually know is true, which is God's word. Enough about that. I find it hard to believe that 2012 is almost over!!!!! Is it just me or did this year go by really fast? Like...REALLY fast! If this is any indication on how fast 2013 is going to go then shoot! Graduation will be here in no time! I have so many goals for this upcoming year that I want to accomplish; something sis and I are going to do is keep a jar and write down good things that happen throughout the year. When the year is over we're going to re-visit it and see what happened! :] That's enough for me now; time to shower and actually become a decent individual in the world again. Cheers! Hope everyone has a good Christmas!

Holly: It's now 11:36.  Still in my pj's.  lol.

I really don't have much to say.  I know that may come as a surprise to many of you.  haha.  But no, really.  Like Kelly I too am surprised that 2012 is coming to an end so quickly.   It's been kind of a big year for me. It's hard to believe that when this year started I was still in school.  In that same span of a year I've been in school, graduated from school, been done with school, moved out on my own, and am now on my second "real" job.  And gotten hopelessly hooked on several entertainment franchises that now consume the majority of my free time.  lol.

I am eager to see what 2013 awaits for me.  For many people that I'm close to it's going to be a big year for them.  But for me, it's kind of a question mark.  All I know is I don't want to fold clothes at Old Navy for the rest of my life (NO. OFFENSE!)  My dream is to work for my alma mater.  It gave so much to me and I would love to give just a little bit of myself back to it.  That's all.  Maybe 2013 will open a door for me there.  I pray it does.  But other than that....question mark.

Tomorrow we meet up with an old and dear friend and return to Middle Earth again.  Christmas is three days away.  And we're with family.  Life is good.  I hope all of you have a magic-filled, wondrous Christmas.  Hold close those who are closest to you, and ALWAYS count your blessings, because you have more than you could possibly realize.

Hugs from Ohio.  <3

AND...in the spirit of all things Christmas, our favorite Christmas flick is...............

Holly: This one!

So the IMDB is a little weak in terms of a plot, description, what have you, but the basic gist of it is a Scroogy failed-actor-turned-primary-school-teacher, Mr. Maddens, who gets suckered in to directing the school's nativity play.  In the midst of all of that he gets bombarded by his childish, highly immature (but hilarious) teaching assistant, Mr. Poppy.  It's basically doomed to fail on all accounts, especially when Mr. Maddens begins this intricate web of lies (in order to impress his fellow teacher rival, Gordon Shakespeare, who's absurdly full of himself) circling around his ex-girlfriend Hollywood producer flying herself and her crew out to watch their nativity play. The blowing up of the lies begetting lies and lies growing and growing and Mr. Maddens getting himself into deeper and deeper hot water is what makes most of the humor.

So you're reading this and probably thinking, Gee, Holly, well that sounds all fine and dandy, but why is it your FAVORITE Christmas movie? I mean, there's so many other good ones out there!!!!

Yes.  That is true.  But I....well, we....have a couple reasons.  The main one for me is because in the beginning of the movie, Mr. Maddens has absolutely no hope: in Christmas, in his students, in himself for doing a good job of directing, in Mr. Poppy.  As the movie progresses we learn he's still in love with his ex-girlfriend, even traveling great lengths to put his heart and the hearts of his students on the line.  As the movie progresses the students go from not believing in themselves, not thinking they can do anything, to "sparkling and shining" and redeeming the lost cause that their school once was.  And wishing the absolute BEST for their teacher that they love so dearly and admire.  My recommendation is this: watch the movie.  It will make you cry.  And it will definitely make you laugh and warm your heart.

Kelly: On top of what was already said, I have nothing really to add. What I get from this movie is quite simple. There's one part where Mr. Maddens has just spoken to an unsure student about wanting to participate in the play because she didn't want to wear "a stupid costume." After he sends her off to lunch, he stumbles upon "Christmas post" in which the students write letters to Santa asking what they want for Christmas. A few of them are traditional things like this and that. As he continues to read them, more and more of them say along the lines of "I just want Mr. Maddens to be happy." He gets quite emotional by the end and once he walks back into the auditorium the passion just lights up. These same students that he called "useless" in the beginning of the movie still want nothing but the absolute best for him.  And that's just awesome. I feel we should always feel that same way towards all people, even those who have wronged us any way or have said we're useless. Even if that person is ourselves.

Then there's Mr. Poppy. Despite receiving constant criticism for his over-the-top behavior and enthusiasm, he continues to do that and then some. I consider myself to be like Mr. Poppy at times. Here's what I mean; today I received a comment from one of my clinical instructors that said "I wish that everyone was as cheerful and enthusiastic as you are." It just goes to show you that when you carry that sort of attitude, like me, like Mr. Poppy, though it doesn't seem like it at times people do notice. And they appreciate it. Lastly, what else I get from this movie is of course the fact that Martin Freeman is in it! He has easily become one of my favorite actors and to me is more than just Tim from the Office or soon-to-be none other than Bilbo Baggins himself. I think we so often forget that actors, despite their various roles, are regular people too and live regular lives just like you and I. Since Martin has become one of my faves, I've brought it upon myself to see him in more of his work. I really do appreciate him more as an actor and as a person! So yes, I will close by saying, definitely watch this movie. It really is gold as far as Christmas movies go!

***Holly adds her actor/actress worship pet peeve/rant: Because I've read interviews, etc, and they don't like that.  For example, Kelly and I like Martin Freeman, and we've seen a lot of his work, and I've read interviews with him and he said at one point he got really tired of hearing "Tim!!" being shouted in the streets. While I love the character Tim from The Office, that's not who they are.  Actors and actresses aren't defined by their characters; they're defined by THEIR character.  They're ordinary people, just like you and me, who just happen to be spectacularly good at their jobs and also...they love what they do. I challenge you: if you have a favorite actor/actress, watch their other works (besides the one work that made you fall in love with him/her).  Your opinion will change.  //end rant***

Potpurri Post #5

Kelly: We have nothing concrete to talk about, so we're just going to blah on and on. It's going to be a busy week for me. Doc's appt tomorrow, test tomorrow, test on Friday and a Women's choir concert on Sunday that you all should come to cuz it's going to be awwwwwwwwwwwwesome!!!!!!!!!

I'm really excited about the Hobbit too. I had seen the trailers and whatnot on TV but seeing it on the big screen was super cool! And to think, the next time we see it on the big screen it'll be for real! I also have my tentative clinical placement for next semester; anybody ever been to a surgical ICU? I was pretty mad at first that I didn't get a placement at Berea, but life goes on. And now we're watching Gangam style. Life is pretty good. Nothing really to report for me. I'm boring :P

Holly: So we really don't have a specific topic...so we're just going to catch y'all up on our lives and babble endlessly until we feel like stopping! :}

To start, almost ONE. MONTH.  Until The Hobbit appears on the big screen!!!!!!!  To say that Kelly and I are excited is a gross understatement.  We saw Wreck-it Ralph with some friends last night and we saw a preview and I think we scared our friends and everyone else in the theater! lol.  But yeah.  We have our tickets and everything.  It's going to be amazing!

A bit of sad (ish) news: I have just about a week and a half of my job left, and then I'm back out into the world of unknowns.  I can't believe it's already been six months.  When I got hired on and they told me everything would wrap up in November, it seemed a million miles away, but now it's here.  It's been so awesome, and I've been really blessed with awesome co-workers.  And of course, the sweetest (and smelliest, and greasiest) dogs anyone can even imagine.  I will miss it terribly.  So I'm going to do my best to make the most of these last few days.  I've sent out some applications; I'm looking for something a little closer to home.  Because I do love my job, SO. MUCH, but the commutes are kind of crazy.  So there's that.  Please send good vibes/pray/whatever you do for me in these next couple of weeks.

Another endeavor that I've recently joined is Mary Kay.  Yes!  After several months of friends dragging me to events and yanking my rope, I signed up about a month ago.  It's been a little slow-going, and it gets pretty frustrating, but overall I am enjoying it, and things are slowly picking up and I'm making progress.  I have goals and I know what I need to do to reach them, and I'm confident that I will do so. The women are so amazing and encouraging, and of course the products sell themselves!  I'm excited to see where this whole thing goes; I'm looking forward to it.  :)

That's about all I have to report on my front.  Keep on keeping on.  Be blessed!

An Open-Ended Letter to BC and MF....ok, and to the rest of Team Sherlock. And the fans too. Wow, this is a long title.

Dear BC and MF,

nah, scratch that:

Dear BC, MF, and Team Sherlock,
.................

one more time:

Dear All who love Sherlock (but mostly to BC and MF because that's why we watched the Emmys last night),

Hi.  Guess we gave it away now.  So we watched the Emmys last night.  We hates them.  I mean, don't get us wrong, of course we weren't born under rocks.  We're familiar with the big shows that were on: Mad Men, The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, Homeland, etc etc etc....BUT.

What happened last night is the very reason why we typically don't watch shows like that.  Because ONE show usually sweeps all the wins.  It's nothing more than a popularity contest.  We're not trying to bash television...obviously, because the American people deem the aforementioned shows worthy of such an honor.  But SERIOUSLY...

Mad Men had 81 nominations.  EIGHTY. ONE?!?!? What the crap?  That's insane. Wasn't even aware that you could be nominated for an Emmy in 81 different categories.  Jeebus.  Despite all of this, despite all of this big-name shows, stars, etc, that's not why we stayed up to watch the Emmys.  We had one reason and one reason only:

Team Sherlock.

We waded through TWO HOURS of awards before they finally came to the "Miniseries/Movie" category.  Oh, you would not believe the tension and excitement we had.  Literally on the edge of our seats.  But...no.  Nothing.

Should we be surprised?  No, I guess not.  Because, like I mentioned, it's a glorified popularity contest and not much else.  In the grand scheme of things, we're not really sure if you all were bummed, surprised, nonplussed, whatever, that you left empty handed.  But then we got to thinking: at least you all were THERE.  In LA.  Next to big time stars, shows, etc etc.  And for a show that has a predominantly British audience that only started a couple of years ago, that is pretty awesome.

But we know that there's more to Sherlock than just Emmy nominations.  For us, it's taken us to entertainment in a level that we never knew existed.  It's taken us to new places emotionally, physically, we've never related so closely to characters as this.  It's more than that.  You helped us to believe in true friendship, loyalty, the power of the human mind, the fragility of the human spirit, that even the most stoic and complex of individuals can be shaken to their very core and reach out to their one and only friend in their hour of need.  We've laughed, we've cried, we've run down the streets of London and Baker Street right beside y'all.  And we, the fans, will wait, eagerly, perhaps even a little frustrated, anxious, angry, and tense, for having to wait a year to see what will happen next.  We are waiting.  We are Sherlocked.

BC and MF, if there was an Emmy for passion and versatility, then you would win it, hands down, no argument.  The obvious passion and versatility for your job and your utter brillance and talent you bring to Sherlock is nothing to be matched to the Emmy speeches we saw last night.  If there was an Emmy for Sherlock fans, we would win it, hands down, no argument.  The fan base that we see on a regular basis can't top some of the big-time shows and stars we saw last night.  Because the two of you are REAL.  You're RELATABLE, you're BRILLIANT, you're so GENUINE, it's refreshing to us, us that are so sick and tired of fake, plastic, superficial.  So please, please know that we, and so many others, were rooting for the two of you so hard at the Emmys last night.  Even though you ultimately didn't win, we are still SO PROUD to continue to root for you, to be your fans, to wait and see whether Sherlock survived the fateful hospital plunge.

Thank you, both of you, for reminding us what true talent and TV is.  Oh, and just a warning to the entertainment world:

You's about to get your FACE rocked off.  Bilbo Baggins.  Bilbo.  Baggins.  That's all we have to say about that.

Very truly Sherlocked,

Holly and Kelly

Memoirs of a Saturday morning

Holly: Awake before 9am.  That has to be a record for someone like me who is notorious for sleeping in.You can thank the gargantuan thunderstorm that rolled in this morning: lightning, thunder that shook the apartment, pounding rain. Yoda is playing with a ping-pong ball.  Somebody call Forrest Gump! lol. It's actually still raining now....something we, and so many others, still desperately need. Kelly is perusing Facebook and marveling at how so many of our friends are moving on to new chapters in their lives, namely moving into their own places.  It's crazy to think that not even that long ago we were still running around in college without a clue in the world as to where our lives were going.  Even myself, 22 and living on my own, still has no clue what she wants to do when she "grows up".  If I ever get to that point! haha.  But plans change.  They always do.  I started college with a laundry list of bighearted dreams, and then I grew up, and they changed.  But you have to be flexible.  Hoping to see some of those dear friends this afternoon/evening.  :)

I'm 2 chapters away from finishing "Return of the King."  A brilliant piece of fiction if I do say so myself.  I highly recommend it.  But you should read the other two first or you'll find yourself a bit confused.  Kelly is almost finished with "The Hobbit"...also a brilliant piece of fiction.  Very cutely written.  Can't wait to see the movie!!! *&#$#*^

My cats are going into queer fits so I think that's a perfect time to turn things over to my sis...

Kelly: Oh yes, The Hobbit is fantastic! It's taken me a bit longer than I had hoped to finish it but that's ok because it's summer. :] Unfortunately my summer is almost over as classes start back again on the 22nd. It's my last year of school and I could not be happier! I have run this race so long and it is so refreshing to hear that it is almost over!!!!!!! I think that will be my motivation to just get going and get things done. My goal is to make the Dean's list this upcoming semester and I think I can do it!

I have come to the also realization that having cats is also similar to having children. They wake us up in the morning, demand food, love you then hate you at the same time. We feed them, brush them, cuddle with them, fish their toys from under the shelf or under the table and break up fights that sometimes occur. And to think in the middle of May they hated each other. Now they are best friends....and fighting with each other on  the table. Lovely. May have to break up another fight in a bit. Holly's reading Return of the King now and I heard thunder again, so another storm may be rolling in. Waiting for Catherine to get up so we can get this day started! Got grocery shopping to do.

Last night Holly and I finished the LOTR movies for a second time (we didn't watch them all in one day!) and I have fallen in love all over again! I am so looking forward to December 14 and my goodness it could not get here soon enough. I have my Treebeard shirt on, which is what I plan on wearing whenever we go to see it. In light of what happened in Aurora, Colorado, Holly and I have decided not to see it on opening night...and for other reasons too. We also do not want to see it in 3D either; 3D movies make me dizzy. We have also discussed possibly seeing it a second time when we go back to Ohio for the holidays and having a sister date! :D Stay tuned for that. Ok I'm going to stop rambling now. Places to go and things to do.

Two will become three....and some crazy dives!

Holly: Well...it's the end of July, going into August, and it's an even numbered 4 year period, and you know what that means??

SUMMER LYMPICS!

Yep...from London this year (tears!!!!!! considering I was there this time last year...).  Anyway.  Enough of that.  The three of us (and two very uninterested felines) from humble Apartment #1 are pouring over the diving men's finals right now.  Wow!  Such poise.  And they're SO together!  It's practically perfection, flawless.  How do they do that?  And two guys from Mexico just did a 4 1/2 inverted somersault...so much spinning...perfect spinning!  Crazy!  Perfect!  But we always cringe when they jump off because they're so close to the board and I don't want to see lovely toned divers go splat!  We watched the Opening Ceremony when it came on, but I'm sad to report that we missed James Bond/the Queen parachute in.  But we did catch the bajillion-foot Voldemort and the crazy era music dancing montage.  And the doctors and nurses.  A bit odd, but still well done if I do say so myself.  Hopefully this evening on the beach volleyball front, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh will pull another win....man, that stuff is just as exciting as Sherlock!

Now, onto the second big piece of news that's sweeping the nation...literally!  I'm sure many of you are familiar with the Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit series.  If you're not, I suggest you claw yourself out of that rock you're hiding under and remedy that as soon as possible.  Seriously, I have just recently seen the light and I have no clue why I waited so long.

ANYWAY....

As of today, the illustrious Peter Jackson (if you don't know who that is....oh geez, just look it up) announced today that the originally slated two part movie series of "The Hobbit" will now become a THREE part movie series!  Of course, I have some.....concerns.....with this:  First off, the book is only 271 pages.  Now, there is plenty of material for two movies, but even with some series drawing out, editing, tweaking, etc...it will be interesting to see such short of a book into 3 parts.  I mean, the LoTR series itself is WAY over 1000 pages, and each of those movies is well over 3 hours.  So that makes sense.

My second concern is that of the actors.  Kelly and I are now hopelessly "Sherlocked", and, of course, the illustrious actor playing the hobbit protagonist Bilbo Baggins is also the charming Dr. Watson in Sherlock.  I'm just wondering how that will work in terms of filming and production.  See, Sherlock's seasons are only 3 episodes, but they're 90 minutes.  Season 2 finished in January of this year, and Season 3 starts in January 2013.  The Hobbit (part 1) is being released at the end of this year, December 2013 next year, and now with part 3, theoretically summer 2014.  How will this work??????????????????

Until then, I shall wait anxiously for The Hobbit.  And Smaug.  Who is being voiced by the smooth-as-silk Benedict Cumberbatch (who is also Sherlock).  Can you say SPAAAZZ??? &^%@(*&P_)_)(#$(*&^@#^%$^&

Kelly: As I posted on my Twitter earlier, I stated that I was going to be cautiously optimistic about the fact that a 2-part movie is now going to be turned into 3. Though my concerns have nothing to do about characters, plot holes or material. The way I see it is simple; MONEY. Think for a sec; the LOTR trilogy pulled in over $2 BILLION. No...not million. OVER 2 BILLION DOLLARS. So really it seems like a no-brainer; die-hards will watch and wait for a 3rd movie. They'll wait and pay to see the three movies. Shoot, I'll wait and pay my dues to see the three movies as a recent Ringer. Like Holly, I too am concerned about the overlapping in Sherlock and this third Hobbit film. Again...cautiously optimistic.

And US just won a bronze in diving! TEAM USA!!! For what it's worth though the Chinese team were really good (they won the gold). Mexico completed the most difficult dive and they walked away with the silver. Let's see what is coming up next...YES. Beach volleyball! May-Treanor and Walsh are coming up next and taking on Czech Republic. We've been waiting patiently since Friday, so we are getting very excited. I really have nothing else to add so I am going to post this humorous picture that a fellow Sherlock fan of ours linked to me and Holly via Facebook. Enjoy the Olympics and don't shoot walls if you're bored.

Holly and I have friends. Sherlock doesn't. Except Watson.

Potpurri post #4

Kelly: For starters I have posted a picture of Yoda. She is smiling at you. Say hello back. Actually in all honesty the cat is probably plotting my demise. Today I'm going to talk about a lot of things, mostly about church. This morning when I woke up I really did not feel like going. If you know me this is a rarity because I  love going to church. But I was hurting and I knew I'd have to wear my new brace I got. I knew I'd get 600000 people coming up to me saying "what's wrong what's wrong" and to be honest I really didn't feel like dealing with that. Again. Just what I need is more attention on myself. But of course, I bit the bullet and just decided to go. I was always told if you don't feel like it, then just fake it. And of course, after only about  2.5 seconds of faking it I was into it.

The message at church today was titled "Remember the Light." This one today was probably one of my favorite sermons. I need to start keeping a list; I've got about 3-5 just blown out of the park sermons that I need to remember. This one was another one. I have had a pretty crappy end of the week. Long story short, I'm seeing an orthopedic surgeon sometime this upcoming week, probably Wednesday or Thursday. All weekend I have been thinking about what I need to do since this is now becoming a very real option. Finding another job, taking time off, and being prepared to be dependent on others. Which...is really hard for me to do because I'm the complete opposite. Ok, enough commercial break but anyway my pastor was telling a story about "being in the dark." And after the story was told, I suddenly remembered how I got to Berea. My dad didn't have a job, so naturally my sister and I made the financial cut. A year later he did get a job. Needless to say if we were to apply this year or any other year we probably would not get in anymore. And we would have missed this. ALL of this. All the blessings and people that I have grown to love and care for. And those who have had to put up with me. Once I started thinking about that I thought of those who have carried Holly and I through everything. It's a long list. But wow. Sometimes I really forget how blessed I am. Sometimes I really forget how awesome God is. I'll close with this: When you are in the dark, remember what you learned in the light.

Holly: So...I really don't have much to say.  Which is a rarity for me too.  I have to agree with my sis on the church thing.  Normally I enjoy all the sermons, but these past few have just been over the top...wow!

During church today, in the back row I saw a familiar face.  It was one of my best friends from Berea, Tim.  He came through Berea during the week and met up with Kelly; apparently she knew he was coming to church and they didn't tell me about it! Losers.  Naah, just messing.  Anyway, it was a very nice surprise.  We had lunch and he filled us in about Ichthus (which, if you don't know what it is, I highly suggest you read up...an AMAZING God-filled weekend of rock out loud music, people loving on each other, and thought-provoking and challenging speakers!).  Very sad that we missed out, but we will be making it up there next year!  fo sho!

Something that I'm hopefully going to be starting soon in this blog is little posts called "Jesus and ER".  It's when I take an episode of ER and apply scripture and Christian themes to it, sort of to bring me closer to my faith.  I did it a couple times while in college and it really blew me away at how God can take something that I enjoy so much and have me thinking about how it ties in with things that are taught in scripture.  So be keeping an eye out for that, pretty excited!

Anyway, Wiley is lying on top of "The Hobbit"...which I need to keep reading.  Still on chapter 6.  Also, enjoy this video of Smokey, a kitty that purrs really loud.  :)

Be blessed! :)
