Kelly: Holly and I would like to talk about something we love very much, other than Jesus Christ, our family, friends, each other, Berea College, etc. Yep, this is another "this is why we love this" blog. But today's topic is actually regarding a television show, one of our favorite television shows to be exact. I'm not saying it IS our favorite, because MY favorite of anything changes every five seconds or so, so I'll just say it's one of our favorites. I think you get the point. Anyway, today we're talking about Whose Line is it Anyway? If you don't know what that show is, I pity you.
Our love for this improvisational comedy started.....oh, man I can't even remember. I watched it on and off in high school when I could, and at one of my friend's birthday parties we did some improv and had a great time! Holly took a drama class in high school, but she probably could tell you more than I can (I'll have her mention the gun story. Don't worry; nobody was hurt). But going on, it wasn't until this summer when Holly and I were on campus in our cozy basement room and for some reason we just wanted to start watching it again. So we did. I actually found a website (thank you Lord for stumbleupon) about a year ago that has EVERY SINGLE episode, both the US and UK versions online!!!!!!!!! Every night though this summer, we would watch 2 or 3. Some had us chuckling every now and then, while some had us on the floor in tears laughing so hard. Seriously, I LOVE COMEDY. Laughter in my opinion is the best medicine; for me it
provides distraction, relieves the stresses of nursing school and allows me to spend time with my sister. And it's contagious! One part of an episode sometimes keeps us laughing for days!!
Now though, since sis and I are so busy, we usually watch Whose Line once a week, sometimes 2 days a week. Every time though we get the same satisfaction of living just a few seconds longer. I read a study on the internet that said every time you laugh you live 2 seconds longer. I think I just added 10 years to my life since we started watching Whose Line again. And the best part? NOVEMBER!!! What's going on in November? Well, the definitely us going to Richmond (about 15 mins. away) to see a live performance from none other than Colin and Brad (2 regulars from Whose Line!) I've read NOTHING but good reviews, and I must say I am so freaking excited beyond belief! 6 weeks on Friday! November 18. Remember that day, folks. I close with this; laugh. Find something, anything, every day that makes you laugh. You will be amazed at how much better you feel. That's all. Off to bed; my butt's gotta get up at 4:00. No, not PM. Cheers!
Holly: Oh man, this is so great! I really have nothing conducive to add to this (other than my pathetic attempt at improvisational comedy), so I will just reiterate what my dear sister said and say that I will cherish those basement room memories, and the countless times since then, for the rest of my life: growing closer as sisters and laughing at four fully-grown adults making complete goofs out of themselves and getting numerous laughs from just a couple of stressed-out college kids! And I do agree and fully support the theory that laughing really does make everything better.
Ok, now for the story, and I promised myself that if I ever got the opportunity to meet ANYONE from Whose Line that I would share this story (so Brad and Colin, beware): My junior year of high school I did backstage work for the drama club, and one day my teacher/the director asked me if I would play a small, non-speaking role as "the killer" in the play (I wasn't even credited...no one really even knew it was me, except the cast and crew). Of course, I enthusiastically agreed, but the only condition was that I had to fire a gun onstage. Don't worry...it was just a starter pistol loaded with blanks. Opening night comes around, it's a totally packed house, and the lights go down and it's my time: I tiptoe on stage in my all black and earphones (yes, it was loud), and I go to pull the trigger and I hear a "click". Nothing happens. I pull the trigger a few more times, but "click", "click", "click". Not even a few seconds have passed, and, realizing the gun is not going to work for me, I yell "BANG!" as loud as I can. The audience completely erupts in laughter and (bless their hearts) the cast continues as if the gun went off.
All I have to say is, 1. thank God the play was a comedy, and 2. my teacher/director absolutely LOVED the "bang!", so much so that it was kept in for the next two shows!
I am also completely stoked out of my mind for November. Just in case you didn't already know that. Hope you've laughed today. :) If not, then, watch the video below (it's Kelly and I doing what we love to do on a Friday night). Blessings.
Have you laughed today? :)

Trapped....in an elevator
Kelly: So, neither of us were really planning on blogging tonight for any reason. Until....about 20 minutes ago. Our gospel choir (Black Music Ensemble...BME for short) ended in a very powerful way and we exchanged hugs and good wishes as usual on the way out. And like normal, I, along with Holly, her roommate, my roommate and two other girls get in the elevator. As usual, I push the "3" button, but somebody on the other side of the elevator tries to PRY THE DANG DOOR OPEN so they could get in too.
-______________________________________-
Uh....HELLO?! Fact; if you try to PRY the door open, it WILL GET STUCK. Period. Anywho, so the door was open just a smidge, then kept closing, then kept opening just that smidge. And of course, none of us in the elevator had any cell service so we could call campus security, so we had to yell at the people on the other side to get someone to call them. While we were waiting, we passed the time by singing Adele's Rolling in the Deep and making up funny stories about the fact that us being stuck would make a good zombie apocalypse movie. And now I'm going to let Holly tell the rest.
Holly: *smh* When will people LEARN??
Anywho, as we were serenading ourselves with the soulful voice of Adele (and prompting those on the outside to serenade us), the campus police showed up and tried for a few minutes to pry us out, all to no avail. I don't know how the elevator eventually prompted itself to work again, or how the door was opened, but, nevertheless, it was, and all six girls ran out basically screaming and hugging anyone in sight. This ordeal has now officially scared me into using the stairs for a good while. Possibly forever. But hey, it's better for you anyway!
Hope your week is going swimmingly. blessings! :) <3

Cheese Balls and Rice Krispy Treats
Holly: Before I go on with this, I would just like to state for the record that, right now, I am absolutely FUMING over technology! Facebook Mobile, to be specific. I have tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and it is just refusing to be cooperative! To the best of my knowledge (which, in technological terms, is next to none), I have not done anything wrong. I am following the instructions very carefully. It is VERY frustrating because it is working just fine for Kelly. Ok, ending rant now.
Tonight my fantabulous roommate chauffeured Kelly and I to Wal-Mart. While perusing the aisles we came across at least a quarter of an aisle of BARRELS of cheese balls! My roommate hugged one around herself and was like, cheese balls, what are cheese balls?????? Kelly and I busted into laughter. Of course, my roommate decided that the cheeseball haven would make a perfect YouTube video (she has recently gotten into mobile phone vlogging). So, here we are, three stressed college girls making a video about oversized containers of cheese balls in the middle of Wal-Mart on a Friday night! :D
No sooner than thirty-six seconds after shooting this cheese ball video, we proceed to the end of the aisle and there is a display of freaking RICE KRISPY TREAT BRICKS!!!! Holy buckets, it was a Rice Krispy treat SHEET!! Literally the largest creation of marshmallow rice goo that I have ever seen! It was quite glorious! And hilarious! So, here we are again, three stressed college girls laughing at Rice Krispy bricks in the middle of Wal-Mart on a Friday night! :D
Good fun was had by all! P.S Hummus is awwwweeeesssssssssooooommmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeee!!! :) It has become my new addiction!
Kelly: Good times with good company. That's all I really have to say. Honestly have NEVER SEEN a container of cheese balls that big! Totally insane! Ok, off to bed now, pip pip. Busy weekend ahead of busy work; hey, that's what I signed on for for nursing school. Cheers!
P.S. 10 MORE WEEKS TILL COLIN AND BRAD SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Theme of the day: "I'M NOT CRAZY!"
Kelly: It's true, readers. Contrary to what you may have seen or heard, we are not crazy! Granted, it has been a rather crazy week, but it's not true. This week was actually the first full week of what I am about to endure for the rest of this semester. Two day a week clinicals, so far, are NOT agreeing with me. Awake at 4:00 on Tuesday, and I've been up since 6 this morning. Oh well, as the old saying holds...this too shall pass. Over time my body will adjust to my erratic sleeping/waking cycles. Although thus far I have enjoyed both of my rotations. Tuesdays I am so far in Lexington at St. Joseph Main doing...whatever. I was in the OR on Tuesday (hello, robotic laparascopic assisted hysterectomy!!!!), and today I was in a psychiatric facility, observing individuals with substance abuse. I must say, I am so impressed by these individuals and their courage to realize they have a problem and are fixing it. Mental health can be a very dangerous field...but there are those who do own up to their issues and try to work them out. EVERYONE in the group meeting I observed today were admitted voluntary; in other words, it was their choice. Stay tuned, and for more accurate and detailed descriptions, please read my blog entitled "Clinical adventures: from novice to RN." Ok, enough of my shameless plug.
Funny factoid/story that happened today, I was checking my Yahoo! email as I typically do. I was deleting the usual facebook group posts or something like that and then I received this one email that for some reason I could just not ignore. The subject was "Chase bank doesn't like you." Chuckling, I opened it. Below is the first paragraph of such email, verbatim:
Holly: Um...yeah, I think that Chase bank SHOULD like you. But anyway...

"Aaron Collette came off a plane from Iraq and into his "safe zone” -- his father's home in Oregon that you saved from imminent foreclosure by Chase bank while Aaron is home on leave.
Aaron and his dad Tim recorded a video to thank you and 122,000 Change.org members for saving their home while Aaron is on leave from Iraq."
Uh...excuse me?! Either my email has been spammed to kingdom come or someone is playing a joke on me. Though this is an incredibly awesome story, I was NO WAY involved with saving this family's home from "imminent foreclosure." And I'm still not sure why Chase bank doesn't like me....but we'll see. Suggestions on what I should do with this email would greatly be appreciated. That's all to report for now. Cheers!
The blog's title actually came from a previous Facebook status of mine from earlier today. I arrived to work this morning just before 9 and my professor boss asked me where the clickers are. (Ok, I know that y'all have NO IDEA what I'm talking about, so just bear with it). My mind panicked because I could have absolutely sworn that I had left them out from the previous lab; in fact, I know I did!!!! All the while I swore up and down that I am NOT crazy! So my professor left to do another sweep of all the labs and prep rooms when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. I mentioned my inquiry to my fellow TA, and to my horror/shock/hilarity, I realized that it was a clicker. In fact, ALL of the clickers were situated perfectly in the middle of each and every table. Needless to say, we all got a good laugh. I think that during clean up I asked myself, Ugh, can it just be the weekend already???
This afternoon I also got to hear a talk from an MD who is chair of the...well, I don't remember what...department at UK (University of Kentucky, for our out-of-territory readers). But this guy was freakinnnnggggg brilliant!! He has a bajillion patents on an artificial lung/other heart-lung related mechanisms and hasn't received a penny from hardly any of them! And this all started when he investigated the not-so-hidden dangers of ventilators! Ventilators!!! Who would have thunk it? Apparently, over time, ventilators do more harm than good. But yeah, definitely left the talk having learned something. And not only was he freakinnnnnnnngggggg brilliant, but he could rip on the harmonica like no other!!! I was just like, play dat harmonica, genius lung man!

In other news, I got another 85 on my online high stress-inducing biochemistry quiz (sha-zam!), and I can now see clearly on my side of the dorm again. Yes, our light has been burned out since we moved in but now all is well, bright, and clear in 202 once again! :) And kettle corn is awwweeeessssoooommmmeeee!!!
Tomorrow is Friday (hooray!). Hope everyone is having a wonderful week and is looking forward to the great things to come! :)

The Couch
Holly: This is a true story.
In 1998 our house was added on to. Let's be frank, a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom, 2-story house just didn't cut it for a growing family of five. (Although, to this day, it is still 1 bathroom for five people...when Kelly and I are home from college, that is). Anyway, when buying furniture, we selected this three-section couch. It was blue, and the middle section pulled out with two drink holders and a small table-ish thing...which...we never really used. And the two ends reclined. It was a good couch. Served us family very well...and became the favorite honing/sleeping spot when dear Nala entered the picture in February 2008.
Flash forward to about a year ago...
To make a long (and humorous) story very, very, VERY short, the brother invites his friend over and...bippity boppity boop...broken couch! Couldn't put the foot rest down because it wouldn't go back up. :( Sad day in the Korb house.
Flash forward to about two weeks ago...
Mom, Dad, Kelly and I pay a visit to South Carolina to visit our lovely grandparents, aunt, and two very sweet dogs. They pass off to us two black papasan-esque chairs that they said would look very nice in our living room. BING! Instant replacements (or fillers) for broken blue couch!
Flash forward to about fifteen minutes ago...
I just got off the phone with my mom after our routine weekend phone conversations. She has informed me that the two black papasan-esque chairs are now situated comfortably in the living room and the broken blue couch is gone. But that isn't even the best part. Here's how the broken blue couch came to be rid of:
Now, this is strictly based off of what I heard over the phone and Kelly's retelling, but my mom was talking to my brother and dad and she was like, "Let's put the couch outside and put a 'FREE' sign beside it and see what happens." So, the brother went to work, and Dad was ROLLING IT up the hill, put it up at the end of the driveway and put the 'FREE' sign there! According to my mom, the couch was placed at the hill at approximately 1:10 in the afternoon. By 3, the couch. Was. Gone.
My mom saw the collectors of the couch: this older guy and two other guys, and a pick-up truck. They come back around after going up our neighbor's driveway, and they proceed to put the couch in the back of the truck, and when they left, Mom said ONE OF THE GUYS WAS SITTING ON THE COUCH IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK!!!! lawl.
Ladies and gentlemen, according to my roommate, "Redneck First Class."
Only in southeastern Ohio.
Kelly: Jolly good. Jolly good indeed. Mom said that maybe they were taking it to a campsite or a trailer park or something. I'm like, sure Mom. Or maybe some hillbilly in south eastern Ohio just wanted a free couch. Now we're trying to figure out who we're going to tell this story to. Holly's like "hey, I should tell my adviser." Here goes; "Hey, adviser. You wanna hear a funny story? It's about my COUCH." Good times. Man, we need to get a life. Not my words, but there is a wee bit of truth behind that.
Now I'm crowded in my sis's room with her roomie and we're all having a cup of tea. Hopefully there will be a new couch this upcoming weekend at home. Not really sure what it looks like. Having said that, I do have a bit of a concern. I have this MASSIVE test on Tuesday that i HAVE to pass. So basically, the future of my entire nursing career depends on this one test. I'm only allowed to miss two questions on this test, but I do have 3 chances to take it. Please think good thoughts, not only for me but for the new owners of their free couch. Off to have some tea and chat with good company. Cheers!
