Kelly: After much discussion and deliberation, Holly and I have decided to indefinitely take a hiatus from The H and K Chronicles.
Since I've begun my endeavors in travel nursing, it has become increasingly difficult for the two of us to reach out on a time that works out for the both of us to continue to contribute to this blog. To be honest, it's something we've talked about for a while now but we haven't really been sure how to approach it. Yes, it is difficult and this was a difficult decision for us. However, we have really enjoyed figuring out who we are as individuals and watching how God has worked in our lives as His children. We are also each regularly contributing to our own separate blogs. I am further pursuing my career while Holly is further pursuing her own paths, including her relationship over the last 10 months (and some change).
So fear not, we are still around on Facebook and Twitter and if you have our numbers, feel free to reach out to us in that way! To close, I want to say thank you all for reading, following, commenting and going through life with us on this avenue for the last 5 years. It has been a pleasure and a joy expressing ourselves in this way, but as they say, all good things must come to an end! Keep the faith, and remember Jesus loves you, and so do we.

Less complaining, more gratitude: A look ahead into 2016.
Holly and Kelly: As the end of 2015 nears, we wanted to share some of our thoughts on what we are planning to accomplish...or hopefully accomplish. Overall, this was a really great year for the two of us; new jobs, a new place (again), new love interests?????????? and a lot of growth spiritually. As for what lies ahead in 2016, neither of us are sure. We hope to be at our jobs still, and maybe love will come our way for good. Who knows? Only God does, and we are trusting that He will give us whatever we need in the year to come.
On the way back driving from Ohio after spending a couple of days with the parents, we were talking about what our goals were going to be for the year. The blase "go to the gym" or "be healthier" or "just do better" really didn't seem to cut it anymore, as they are all avenues we have explored and to be honest, didn't really yield a lot of tangible change. So for what's to come we decided to keep it simple, as it is the title of this blog. Less complaining. More gratitude. Practicing an attitude of gratitude is entirely Scripture-based, and let's face it, how many times do you or I find ourselves getting wrapped up in drama and negativity? There's enough of it ANYWAY, so this simple goal of ours is to try and combat just a small part of what we see and experience on a day to day basis. So every day, for the next year, we are going to think of one thing, just ONE thing we are grateful for and keep it locked in our minds for the entire day. Just to see what happens. We're curious and are thinking that it is really going to change us. And how we are going to keep hold of our daily gratitude is going to be...well, clever. You'll all see soon enough.
So that's all we really have to say. Yay 2015! We hope you all had a wonderful year and have a wonderful year to come. Prayers for blessings, peace, joy or whatever you are seeking at this time. Be safe, and remember God loves you and so do we! :)
Remember that you are loved. Remember where you came from, and remember that you have a world of infinite potential and possibilities at your feet. And remember the little things, all those seemingly insignificant moments and memories that will, just as quickly as they appear, disappear and become an afterthought. Remember to smile, remember to laugh, remember to cry if you need to, or even if you don't, and remember to breathe.

Three cheers for H and K!!
Holly: Ach!! That magical all-elusive date has come and gone again! How time just seems to march right on by.
Yesterday was August 20th, THE THREE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF OUR BLOG!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D YAAAAHHHOOOOOOYAAAAAAYYY!!!
I still can't believe we're chuggin' along, and that we are. They say "what a difference a year can make" and what a year it has been! It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating 2 years of this blogosphere of wonder and now here we are again, 3 years strong. 3 years of not running out of stuff to talk about. Imagine that! So much has happened this year and we still have so much more to look forward to!
I think we're going to keep at it. In fact, there is no "I think"; we ARE going to keep at it. Thank you all, once again, for chuggin' along with us. Here's to many more years!
Kelly: Trying to type this with a kitty on my lap (a Yoda kitty to be more specific) will be most interesting. Like I say every year when this comes up, I never thought it would make it another year. This has been the first full year of our lives we are both working "full time" and neither one of us are in school. It's been fun and awesome and by far the most crazy! Hard to believe how fast the time seems to go, and it feels like this year went by the fastest. But yeah. 3 years. This blog idea was born after the two of us came home from our respective abroad endeavors and decided this would be not only fun for us but a bonding experience too. We have enjoyed coming back to this blog, even though we haven't been able to post as much in a while, but still. This isn't just for us, but all of our readers too. We want this to be a safe place to read our thoughts and to explore your own thoughts on the topic at hand. We don't do this to get it out there and see how many people will follow it in one day, no.
That's one of the great things about this blog and the fact we write it together; there's always something to talk about! Often I see stuff on the news or hear something on the radio and still after all this time tell myself "that would be good to blog about." And we do this too with conversations we have. So there you have it. Three years! Here's to hoping we'll have a four year post next year!

30 Days of Writing: How important you think education is
Holly: You've probably heard the saying "knowledge is power." I find it to be true. Not literal, brain-esque power. There are thousands of people around the world who want to attend school but simply can't. I'm thankful each day for my Berea College education. I wish all young women my age could have had the college experience I did. Sure, I gained textbook knowledge, I learned how to write a decent paper, but I learned so much more than that: how to be independent, how to think critically and for myself, how to manage my time (sort of?), how to ask for help, how to properly communicate with people different from me...the list goes on. Education helps you to gain and recognize the potential you have. It becomes a part of something that's bigger than yourself. It drives you, gives you something to work for. At least it did for me. Like I said, my Berea College education is worth a lot more than the piece of paper hanging up in my living room.
Do I think it'll give you a leg up in the world? Maybe. I suppose it depends on where you end up. Do I think all who are able should go to college? Yes. But it's your choice. I just think any education, especially college, teaches things about yourself that a mere job or other life experiences can't. Education also opens doors: if I never went to high school, I never would have gone on my mission trip five years ago. If I never went to college, I never would have been able to study abroad. Because of those two educations, I saw parts of the world that I probably wouldn't have been able to otherwise. Yes, school is difficult, yes, it is stressful and time consuming, but I would go back in a second if I could.
Kelly: Though I think education is very important, I feel that it is a choice of the individual. People argue that good jobs require a college degree, and while I agree in part to that I have friends who are doing fine in the world without one. I'm not going to sit here and force feed some "you need to go to college" to my future children if I have any; I will leave the choice to them. I will strongly encourage going to college, because in my opinion I think it makes you a better person. At least it did for me. For me, I'm going to not only talk about why I think education is important, rather why I think a Berea education is important and the impact it has had on me.
In almost 2 weeks, I'll be graduating from this place. Since I was 18 years old, I have called Berea my home, and still continue to do so. I've known I wanted to go into nursing since I was probably around 14 or 15, but little did I know how much of a challenge it would bring me. And yes, I have been challenged greatly, but I'm better for it. There have been times where Berea has completely knocked me down flat on my face. I remember one time last spring, sitting up late on my computer researching the process of changing to an independent major. I had a backup plan; I was certain that nursing wasn't going to work. But one of the major parts of me nearly completing my journey at Berea has been my walk with God. God has moved mountains for me to finish here, and I would not be where I am without Him. Berea is a unique and special place in my opinion, and it's by His grace that I ended up here. Sometimes I think about where I would have possibly ended up if I didn't end up here; probably still at home or close to home. I'd probably have my ADN degree and working somewhere around there...who knows? Not that I'd be miserable, but I know that my experiences would have been a lot different. Like going abroad; would I have had the opportunity to do that? I don't know.
Yes, this road has been long, tough and very VERY difficult. I have no regrets though. None. I wouldn't trade my education here at Berea for ANYTHING, and it saddens me that some did not have the same positive outcomes and experiences that I did. I will walk across that stage knowing that I did my best, I trusted God and I came out a better, stronger and wiser person.

"Enjoy the journey of life and not just the endgame." -2012 in review
Kelly: Great quote by a great individual. Starting tomorrow is 2013. WOW!!! It is amazing to me how fast this year has gone by! So many wonderful blessings have been achieved by this year that I can't even begin to comprehend. Moving into our own place, falling in love with 2 of the greatest kitty cats in the world (just a bit biased), getting introduced to Sherlock and LOTR, and for me, being one more semester closer to graduating with a BSN degree!!!!! May 5 is the day! Almost four months to go.
Now normally, next would follow a list of cookie-cutter resolutions, such as I want to lose weight, get closer to God, save my money, etc. I'm not doing that for 2013. I have resolved to not make any resolutions. Instead of resolving, I am going to ENJOY. Enjoy what God has given to me, how He has blessed me and I am going to enjoy growing in Him more as a follower instead of merely a fan. I'm going to enjoy being healthier, because I am healthier, but I'm going to enjoy a treat every now and then and not feel guilty about it. I'm going to enjoy my last semester as an undergraduate and not just seek the end result which is to walk across a stage for 10 seconds, shake Dr. Roelof's hand and have him give me my degree. No. I'm going to do my best to enjoy my last semester and take advantage of every opportunity to be joyful and to thank God for His joy that comes through knowing Him.
I'm ready. I'm ready for what 2013 has in store for me. Though I'm not entirely sure what it will bring, I am prepared for whatever may come my way, good or bad. If the good comes, I will do my best to give credit where it is due. If bad comes my way, I will do my best to not run from the situation but instead face it and rely on God and my own strength to get through it. I refuse to be stagnant, go through the motions and blame others for my own wrong doings. I will be responsible for my words and my actions. But most importantly I will continue to grow as the daughter in Christ I am destined to be. How will I do that? I don't know yet, but He knows. And I have resolved to give everything to Him. Ready or not 2013, here I come!
Holly: We have come to the end of another year. I think this one has gone faster than any I can remember in a long time. When I started out the year I was still in school. Since then I've graduated, gotten my degree, bid "see you later" to some pretty amazing people, moved out on my own, had a couple "real" jobs.
I did note some resolutions at the beginning of the year. I honestly don't remember them (all except 1...ask me about it, it will give you a good laugh! lol). I could do that now, but like Kelly, I'm not going to. Instead, like her, I'm going to enjoy LIFE!!! I'm going to smile, laugh, cry, be enthralled, swept away, mesmerized, scared, worried. I'm going to make time for my friends, both near and far. Saying "please", "thank you", and "I love you" go SO far! There are people in my life who have inspired me, challenged me, in numerous ways...I want to tell them! I'm going to read an ACTUAL book! Or several, Lord willing. I'm going to thank God every day for what I have and ask for His mercy to shower those who are not as fortunate as I am. I'm going to wait with bated breath for the return of Sherlock and our first glimpse at Smaug. I have several potential job opportunities awaiting me even as I type this; I'm going to get my bearings, investigate, and move forward, always seeking God's will. I don't know if that includes Old Navy. We will just see. Most importantly, I'm going to do my absolute best to live like Christ.
I honestly don't know what awaits me in 2013. Maybe I'll get a job I could have never imagined...or there's one waiting for me right now and I just don't know it yet. Maybe I'll meet my future husband. Who knows? But I'm 22, I'm still young and eager for life! 2012 was such a great year for me; 2013 can only get better! :)
I hope that all of you who read this are able to look back at 2012 with smiles, laughter, and even perhaps a few tears. In 2013 I hope that if you are weak, you will look to those you love for strength. I hope that if you are weary, tired, that you will get rest. I hope that if you have been in the despairing shadow of unemployment, opportunity will come. I hope that if you have been faced with some difficult circumstances, that you will summon your inner strength to accept them with grace and move on.
Be safe, everyone. Thank you for an amazing year. See you all when the ball drops. :)

Potpurri post #6
Kelly: To start this post, I would like to point out that it is 11:30 and I am still in my PJ's! Goodness I love Christmas break already. Also, I would like to mention that today is my parents 31st Anniversary!!! :] <3 I hope that one day I can find somebody who can put up with me for that long. But yeah; even after 31 years it is so evident that my parents are still crazy about each other. Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad! I got my final grades on Tuesday; not bad...didn't fail anything but still got one C. The rest were A's and B's. At first I was rather upset because I always think I can do better, but hey, I actually did try. I utilized excellent work/study habits and for my nursing classes it paid off! I scored the highest on my two nursing finals than I ever had before! Must have done something right! So yay me. Ok now I'm done bragging about myself.
The world didn't end yesterday as it was said to. Obviously. If we all went back to the simple truths from Scripture, then there wouldn't be this problem in the first place (for reference please refer to Matthew 24:36). It just irritates me that so many people bought into this whole world ending thing. I mean really? Ok, suit yourself; I'm going to stick with the truth and what I actually know is true, which is God's word. Enough about that. I find it hard to believe that 2012 is almost over!!!!! Is it just me or did this year go by really fast? Like...REALLY fast! If this is any indication on how fast 2013 is going to go then shoot! Graduation will be here in no time! I have so many goals for this upcoming year that I want to accomplish; something sis and I are going to do is keep a jar and write down good things that happen throughout the year. When the year is over we're going to re-visit it and see what happened! :] That's enough for me now; time to shower and actually become a decent individual in the world again. Cheers! Hope everyone has a good Christmas!
Holly: It's now 11:36. Still in my pj's. lol.
I really don't have much to say. I know that may come as a surprise to many of you. haha. But no, really. Like Kelly I too am surprised that 2012 is coming to an end so quickly. It's been kind of a big year for me. It's hard to believe that when this year started I was still in school. In that same span of a year I've been in school, graduated from school, been done with school, moved out on my own, and am now on my second "real" job. And gotten hopelessly hooked on several entertainment franchises that now consume the majority of my free time. lol.
I am eager to see what 2013 awaits for me. For many people that I'm close to it's going to be a big year for them. But for me, it's kind of a question mark. All I know is I don't want to fold clothes at Old Navy for the rest of my life (NO. OFFENSE!) My dream is to work for my alma mater. It gave so much to me and I would love to give just a little bit of myself back to it. That's all. Maybe 2013 will open a door for me there. I pray it does. But other than that....question mark.
Tomorrow we meet up with an old and dear friend and return to Middle Earth again. Christmas is three days away. And we're with family. Life is good. I hope all of you have a magic-filled, wondrous Christmas. Hold close those who are closest to you, and ALWAYS count your blessings, because you have more than you could possibly realize.
Hugs from Ohio. <3

From the New Year...and the new internet!
Holly: This new fantastic post is brought to you by NEW WIRELESS INTERNET at our charming Ohio home!!! Yippee! :D I hope that, so far, everyone is enjoying 2012...it has been mighty busy here for all of us. The parentals have started back up at their teaching posts, I am seeing the world through a new pair of eyes (new glasses!), and there are two birthdays this week: Nala (the dog) tomorrow is turning 4 and our dad's birthday the day after...we won't disclose his age, but let's just say he doesn't look it, at all!
This year is promising to bring some exciting changes for many that I know. For me, at least, this is my graduation year! I am so excited!!!! I can't wait to be finished with school and be on my own living with my sister while she finishes school! I keep having happy dreams about this glorious May day and, although I ended last semester on sort of a bad note grades wise, I am confident to kick my final fall semester in the !@#$%^&*. :]
How did you all ring in 2012? We'd love to hear!
For us, we spent the night/new year with our dear best friend (we've been friends for ages), drinking sparkling grape juice and ruining her house with homemade paper confetti. We then dug up an old marching band DVD and laughed until it hurt, reminiscing and marveling at our 15-year-old selves all decked out in our less-than-attractive band garb! Now, for resolutions, I normally don't make them, but this year, since it is my graduation year, I decided to. I have two...just two:
1. No C's on my transcript for my last semester at Berea!
2. When life gets stressful, break out into ridiculously bad dancing. Obnoxious pop music optional.
Kelly: First off, I feel like it's Christmas all over again. I can now do homework at home when I am actually here, watch TV and movies and keep in touch with our family here when we are away! Brilliant, huh? Ah, the beauty of technology. I am going to keep my part very brief so I can enjoy this new internet and await the arrival of the parents from getting home. I also have two resolutions.
1. Not let myself get so overwhelmed. Last semester was INSANE, and this semester isn't looking any easier. But I overcame, so this time around I am just going to take things one at a time. That's all you can do sometimes.
2. Simple: be more aware of the choices I make. This includes what I eat, how I use my free time, how I use my internet free time, etc. Seems simple, but you would not believe how easy I just let time waste by just sitting and staring at my vacant computer screen. We'll see how this goes!!!!
Yay for the first 2012 post. Tomorrow we will post our bucket lists that we wrote before 2011 ended.
