So long and farewell (for now)

Kelly: After much discussion and deliberation, Holly and I have decided to indefinitely take a hiatus from The H and K Chronicles.

Since I've begun my endeavors in travel nursing, it has become increasingly difficult for the two of us to reach out on a time that works out for the both of us to continue to contribute to this blog. To be honest, it's something we've talked about for a while now but we haven't really been sure how to approach it. Yes, it is difficult and this was a difficult decision for us. However, we have really enjoyed figuring out who we are as individuals and watching how God has worked in our lives as His children. We are also each regularly contributing to our own separate blogs. I am further pursuing my career while Holly is further pursuing her own paths, including her relationship over the last 10 months (and some change).

So fear not, we are still around on Facebook and Twitter and if you have our numbers, feel free to reach out to us in that way! To close, I want to say thank you all for reading, following, commenting and going through life with us on this avenue for the last 5 years. It has been a pleasure and a joy expressing ourselves in this way, but as they say, all good things must come to an end! Keep the faith, and remember Jesus loves you, and so do we.

What a difference five years can make!! Three apartments, two Bachelor's degrees, six jobs between us (soon to be seven!), two pet babies, one fellow, dozens of mini road trips, one "big" vacation to Florida, 2 ALEP trips, approximately 500 episodes of Frasier, ER, Intervention, Doctor Who, Sherlock, and so much more, numerous answered prayers, numerous hugs, laughs, tears, sleeping-in days, friend visits...

Here's to the future! :)

Schtuff twin girls say, volume 8

A few special guests this time around...enjoy! (Warning: a minor and censored expletive below)

Holly: (to her computer) Why do you suck so much?

Kelly: Sis, did you just pour your water into the cat's bowl?
Holly: So? He likes it.
Kelly: Of course he does. He's a cat (I continue to ramble for a bit)
Holly: Kelly, your pizza isn't spinning.

Holly: What do you think cats pray for?
Kelly: Wiley probably prays for more food.

Kelly: Oh, you mean the 456? Don't they just throw up when they don't get their way?

Holly: How was your pumpkin spice latte? Hope it sucked.

Kelly: (while having girl's night). Can someone capable of adulting open the wine please?

Holly: by the way I'm texting boy right now.
Kelly: (impersonating general Strax) BOY!!!!!
(Holly proceeds to bust out laughing)

(Kelly was explaining cat scratch fever)
Holly: Isn't there something like that that you can get from dogs?
Kelly: Rabies

Holly: I'm about to turn my computer on. Say a prayer for me.

Kelly: (talking to the parents). Yeah...we had to fire the maid.
Dad: B****....(we lost it)

 Kelly: I'm not irate. I promise (I wasn't.)
Dad: (in faux angry voice) WHAT DO YOU MEAN????!!!!!

Bonus from church choir:
Holly: Alan (our church choir director), you were a music major. Didn't you have to learn how to play the piano?
Alan: Get out! (Followed by a series of laughter and defenses from other music majors and 'there's no way you could learn every instrument in 4 years.' And all were kidding.)
Alan: I was a music major. Don't you know how to play the BASSOON??? (more laughter)

Kelly: Look at this pile of nothing I have to do today.

Kelly: (enters the room with a pudding cup) It's the rise of the Pudding Brains!
(Holly dies laughing)

4 years and counting...

Kelly: I'm going to tell you all a story.

Once upon a time, there were two twin blondes, who after each of them spending time in Europe, decided to write a blog together. Nothing was really done for a while, just a lot of talk. Finally, they decided to write it, and they called it The H and K Chronicles. They didn't know where this blog would take them or how long they would have it. But here now, 4 years later, and H and K is still going! They are so happy by the fact it's still going and hope for 4 more years and beyond. The End.

4 years! I still can't believe it. Unfortunately this has been a slow year for us and blogging, as we haven't done much. But it's been incredibly busy filled with good and awesome things, and for that we are extremely blessed and grateful! I hope that some of you have been encouraged and blessed by what you have seen us write, because looking back we have been the same way! So once again, thank you! Thank you for sticking with us and journeying on our lives with us. We don't do this for fame, attention and whatnot; we just do it because we enjoy it and we want you all to enjoy too if you wish. So here's to 4 years and hoping for many more!

Holly: Man, times flies when you're having fun!!!

Like Kelly said, this has been a pretty light blogging year for us, and we are sorry about that.  It's just been a whirlwind of a year and sometimes I still feel like I'm trying to catch up! When we started this blog 4 years ago, we didn't have a plan, really. We just decided to keep writing and go with it, and here we are still going with it! I'll admit, there were a few times when we did talk about possibly stopping, just because of life craziness, but we just couldn't. We don't do this for followers, we don't do this to see how many comments we can get, we don't do this to link-up or "get ourselves out there", so to speak.  We do this because we love writing and we love sharing what's going on in our lives with those who care about us (And we've realized that there's A LOT of you, and for that, we are so grateful!!! ^_^ )

It's shaping up to be a pretty exciting rest of the year, so stay tuned, and thanks for hanging out with us these past four years!

August 20, 2011: date of blog launch

August 20, 2012: one year after blog launch

August 21, 2013: two years and one day after blog launch

August 21, 2014: three years and one day after blog launch

August 23, 2015: Taken 4 years and 3 days after launch.

A Richmond chapter begins

Disclaimer: There is a lot of talk about God in this post.  We believe we can ONLY give the credit to Him! Once you read this, you will see why. If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to speak to us privately about them.  Otherwise, enjoy the story, and if you feel inspired, praise with us! :)

H: Wednesday we found out that moving into the house was no longer an option, without any real concrete explanation.  Disappointed and frustrated didn't even begin to scratch the surface as to how we felt.  I wrote in my journal for a long time, pouring out my frustrations and anger to God.  Yes, I was angry.  I don't like being angry, and I even apologized.  There was no holding anything back.  At one point I wrote, "I've learned in the journey of becoming a follower of Jesus is that we still have an obligation to show Your love, even if we don't feel like it."  Quite frankly, I didn't feel like it.  We had spent the last two months praying, putting our faith in people following through, only to be left empty-handed and disappointed.  I went to bed unhappy that night, utterly defeated and spent.  I'm surprised I got any sleep at all.

Kelly was due to come home from Ohio Thursday, so I shared with our house church members that we would not be there, so we could spend the evening catching up, relaxing, and discussing our next steps.  But what I didn't mention was that Thursday morning, I heard that still small voice, something, in my gut say, "You shouldn't go to church tonight."  I couldn't explain it.  (That was the first God moment, although I didn't know it at the time)

We went out for Chinese and we'd barely been home five minutes when Kelly got a Facebook message from a co-worker of hers, saying she had spoken to somebody about a duplex available in Richmond (God moment #2). On the phone, she said that a couple was going to look at it the next day, and asked if we could look at it that evening.  We dropped everything and drove up there.  Yes, it was that split-second of a decision! We had no trouble finding the apartment and were immediately taken to the location and the quietness of the neighborhood, despite it being right off the interstate.  Kelly's co-worker arrived a few minutes later and we asked how she knew the landlord.  This was her response (another God moment):

"Oh, I just talked to her on the phone just now.  I've never met her before.  I was just driving through here and I saw the sign out front, and I thought 'This is for Kelly. I want her to be in a safe neighborhood.'"

We were like ARE. YOU. KIDDING. ME.

Jennifer, the landlord, arrived a few minutes later.  In addition to her infectious personality, she mentioned that a police officer lives down the street and that her niece works at the preschool nearby (Remember the talk about a safe neighborhood?) We helped ourselves to looking around, and, admittedly, it is a downgrade in terms of size and space, but we've learned over the last year that we've had too much space.  The rent is more than $100 LESS than what we're paying now, and the place was near immaculate, there was new carpet, a small patio outside, plenty of parking, a washer and dryer hooked up (!!!), and, most importantly, Yoda and Wiley are welcome! :) Needless to say, it was not a difficult decision.  By the end of the night, a key was given to us and we had signed the lease!

The drive home was a combination of a daze and utter exuberance. God had shown up! Big time.  If we had gone to church, we would have missed the Facebook message and, ultimately, the phone call, the apartment would have been shown tonight and probably taken, and we would still be stuck waiting until the end of next month.  But now, there is no more waiting, and we have a cute new duplex in Richmond waiting for us.  All thanks to God!

K: While reading this, I thought of Holly. Gave up a UK, full-time benefited job for what she does now for the sake of being happier and less stressed out. I also think about getting my first job; that moment and time when I was just ready to give up was when I got the magic phone call. That's what happened here last night; God gave us what we needed, not what we wanted. I remember so many times praying "God just get us this house. Just get us this house." I'm not going to say it was as if my prayers were falling on deaf ears, because I don't believe that. Rather I just felt that this house we were seeking so hard for was just not going to happen. I always had this small notion in the back of my head that it was just going to not work out. Perhaps that was God's way of saying that He had something better for us. Because let's face it, the last thing we actually needed was MORE space and more money to be given for rent.

I truly believe that God talks and shows us what we need in a lot of mysterious yet awesome ways. I remember walking into that duplex and was like "this is it." That "aha!" moment. I don't believe in coincidence. I think coincidence is just one of the many ways God speaks to us. Though I can't hold claim to actually hearing His voice, I can hold to the fact that His fingerprints were ALL OVER THIS. There's really nothing more I need to add to this. It's all been said. We are excited to begin this new adventure and see where else He will take us. My ending is this; if you're waiting for something and feel like throwing in the towel, that's usually when a corner will turn. Sometimes it's not a good corner, but in our experience it usually is. Keep the faith, and remember that God is good.

A Nurses Week post

Kelly: This was actually Holly's idea! Today begins Nurses week, a celebration of nurses past and present. It starts today and ends on the 12th, which is the birthday of none other than Florence Nightingale. It means I'll get a nice spiel at work about how appreciated I am and a lovely present (there is NO sarcasm in that previous statement whatsoever) :) It was Holly's idea to come up with our favorite nurses, real and fictitious. Since we share the same favorite fictitious ones, I figured I would share my favorite real ones! I honestly have too many to name; 4 come to mind, and I hope they know who they are. Due to privacy reasons I'm keeping their names anonymous. Unfortunately, because of my schedule change I no longer work with these awesome nurses anymore, but I am indebted forever to these individuals. They've taken me under their wings, mentored me, challenged me, and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with them. Some have become strictly colleagues, while some have become very close friends of mine. I've learned so much from them, and they've learned some from me too....I hope. Hahaha! So cheers to the four of you I have in mind; thank you for being there for me and helping me grow not only as a person but as a professional too!

Holly: We have two fictional nurses that we admire, one of which has been with us for a while, and one who has just recently entered our lives.

Our first shout-out goes to Carol Hathaway, from the show ER.  I personally love Carol because although she is really good at what she does, she has a big heart for her patients and their families, which sometimes gets her into trouble.  One of my favorite episodes, and the last one to feature her as a show regular, involves a woman with end stage cancer. Carol violates her DNR order, just so her two young daughters can say goodbye.  This particular situation causes Carol to evaluate some of her own choices, and in what is quite possibly the most romantic notion ever, she gets on a plane to Seattle, just to find out if Doug still loves her (Guess what? He still does, and they live happily ever after!)

And secondly, we would like to honor none other than Abigail Morgan. We met Abigail, honestly, just a couple of weeks ago; she can be found in the show Forever.  Abigail was the wife of Henry, the show's main protagonist, and she was an army nurse treating prisoners of concentration camps during WWII.  Unfortunately, her story does not have a happy ending and, without revealing any major plot spoilers, we discovered that Abigail possesses a fierce and loyal love for her family, despite Henry's immortality. And bravery. Oh, was she brave.

So there you have it, folks! Remember to take some time this week (and every week!!) to thank the nurses in your lives! They do a lot :)

As for me, I'm pretty stinking proud of this "real" nurse on the right of me :)

Three cheers for H and K!!

Holly: Ach!! That magical all-elusive date has come and gone again!  How time just seems to march right on by.

Yesterday was August 20th, THE THREE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF OUR BLOG!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D YAAAAHHHOOOOOOYAAAAAAYYY!!!

I still can't believe we're chuggin' along, and that we are.  They say "what a difference a year can make" and what a year it has been!  It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating 2 years of this blogosphere of wonder and now here we are again, 3 years strong.  3 years of not running out of stuff to talk about.  Imagine that! So much has happened this year and we still have so much more to look forward to!

I think we're going to keep at it.  In fact, there is no "I think"; we ARE going to keep at it.  Thank you all, once again, for chuggin' along with us.  Here's to many more years!

Kelly: Trying to type this with a kitty on my lap (a Yoda kitty to be more specific) will be most interesting. Like I say every year when this comes up, I never thought it would make it another year. This has been the first full year of our lives we are both working "full time" and neither one of us are in school. It's been fun and awesome and by far the most crazy! Hard to believe how fast the time seems to go, and it feels like this year went by the fastest. But yeah. 3 years. This blog idea was born after the two of us came home from our respective abroad endeavors and decided this would be not only fun for us but a bonding experience too. We have enjoyed coming back to this blog, even though we haven't been able to post as much in a while, but still. This isn't just for us, but all of our readers too. We want this to be a safe place to read our thoughts and to explore your own thoughts on the topic at hand. We don't do this to get it out there and see how many people will follow it in one day, no.

That's one of the great things about this blog and the fact we write it together; there's always something to talk about! Often I see stuff on the news or hear something on the radio and still after all this time tell myself "that would be good to blog about." And we do this too with conversations we have. So there you have it. Three years! Here's to hoping we'll have a four year post next year!

August 20, 2011- date of blog launch

August 20, 2012- one year after blog launch
August 21, 2013- two years and one day after blog launch
Today! August 21, 2014- three years and one day after blog launch.  With Yoda :)

Schtuff twin girls say

Holly and Kelly: A while back ago, Holly and I were talking about the fact that we sometimes say some utterly stupid and ridiculous things that really make us laugh. I don't remember which one of us suggested it, but it was suggested that we keep a list of some of these silly/stupid things and post them on a blog to make us laugh. So here you have it; a collective list of our funnies over the last almost month or so:

Holly about a new British soap-opera esque show that we've started watching: "It's my new guilty pleasure, I swear.  Suddenly I'm a 40-year-old British housewife."

(watching Lion King): James Earl Jones just needs to narrate my life. At all times.  ~Holly

"ERRRRRRRRRRRRFFFFFFFFFFFFF!" ~Kelly

"I quit at life." ~Kelly, during fits of clinical, fatigue-induced delirium

"Oh, I'm sorry, I just infested you with my sick!" ~Holly, taking a bite of Kelly's food

Kelly: What are you making?
Holly: Peas, pig and pasta. (pig= pork chops, just for clarification)
Kelly: Oh. Do you need help with the peas, pig and pasta?
Holly: Nope.
Kelly: Did you get that off Pinterest?

"I can't use my food stamps because Martin Freeman didn't win an Emmy." ~Kelly

(Holly, while licking the bowl after making cupcakes) "You know how everyone is rooting for the 49ers and the Ravens...you know what I'm rooting for? My waistline."

"Who cares about aesthetics? Get in my belly!" ~Holly while making food

"I don't want to hear anything about you all being hungry. I spent $120 on food today!" ~Kelly
"Hey Kelly....I'm hungry." ~Holly

(roommate shows a picture of Kili) "Ehhh...I don't really think he's all that attractive." ~Holly
"But I wouldn't object if he showed up at the apartment." ~Kelly
(about a minute later) "I wouldn't object if any of the dwarves showed up at the apartment." ~Kelly

"I did not spend 5 years of college to wear a pink stole!" ~Kelly

"Kelly, I am NOT putting $8 jeans on layaway!" ~Holly

"Sometimes when life sucks, just remember that cupcakes were invented." ~Kelly

"They should just rename the next 'Star Trek' movie to 'Benedict Cumberbatch.'" ~Holly

One Hundred

Kelly: Readers, avid readers, and strangers; I present to you with good news. This blog has reached its 100th POST!!!!! *cue wild cheering, confetti, party horns* We are so excited and honestly never thought that it would get this far. Hey, it's hard to keep up with something like this when our lives are taking such busy and definitely interesting turns. Oh...public service announcement: THE LOUD MUSTANG IS GONE!!!!! Turns out it wasn't a mustang that was across the street from us, it was a Pontiac something. Goes to show you how much I know about cars. Whatever. What I'm thinking about is how much new stuff we have gotten into in 100 posts. WOOT. Go us and our crazy fandoms! But what I'm most happy about is how I have felt my relationship with God grow and flourish! I am different. SO much different than what I used to be; even more different than the start of the summer. Gosh. What has happened in 100 posts?

We: met Colin and Brad, Holly graduated, moved into a new place, became mommies to two fuzzy children, got hooked on Lord of the Rings, Sherlock and the Hobbit, made new friends, lived, laughed and grew in our joy of the Lord. WOW! It blows me away how much as people we have grown! It's awesome and we couldn't have done it without God and your all's warm and wonderful comments! Thank you all! 100 down...100 more to go!

Holly: I have a purring Yoda on my lap.  We just ate an amazing dinner (Seriously).  We're wearing our new hobbit feet slippers (you can't make this stuff up).  We're about to go spend time with our amazing church choir family.  :)  I am so different of a person now than I am from a year ago, life isn't AT ALL what I imagined it would be, and yet I couldn't be happier.  We're Skyping with one of our best friends this evening.  All is just unbelievably well!  :D

If you have been riding on this roller coaster with us from the start, then I must thank you.  Knowing that there are those out there that take interest in what is going on in our random, hectic lives makes it the very reason that we've reached 100 posts.  Here's to 100 more, hopefully!

And now, some random awesome pictures:

The love that only few can understand

Holly: I almost totally lost my cool today.  I'll get to why later...in hindsight, it's silly.  But I've learned in my life to have a network of people you can count on whenever you lose your cool in various situations.  Like I said, the person you run to when you're coming unglued depends on the situation; that's the case for me, anyway.  99% of the time, though, that person I go to is my sister.

At work this morning we got started late (hey, it's Friday y'all), and I swore to her up and down that I would be on time to pick her up.  However, later in the afternoon my boss had to bail in order to run an errand, leaving three person work for two people (myself and another co-worker).  In haste I called Kelly and told her that I would, in fact, be late picking her up, and after apologizing over Facebook chat, I thanked her.  And I quote: "Thank you for being so understanding.  Thank you for being obsessed with Martin Freeman with me, because you're one of the only things that's keeping me from completely losing my s*** right now." (Yes. I did swear.  We all slip up, and I'm not perfect, nor do I ever claim to be.  End of story).  Although blunt, it's true.  I honestly can't imagine the person I would be without my sister.

I'll be frank, 99% of the time Kelly and I partake in mind-numbingly boring and stupid activities.  I'll disclose the sister obsessions...let's just say it involves a LOT of Brits!  lol!  What blows me away, and what Kelly pointed out earlier today, is that at 22 years of age and living together for basically that length of time as well...we never run out of things to talk about.  We just GET each other.  But the mind-numbingly boring and stupid activities we do together are the things that we're going to remember when we're in our 90s in a nursing home.  Our relationship is unique.  I'm not saying that every day is puppies and rainbows...we do fight and argue, mostly about stupid stuff, but never anything physical.  But I'm grateful that we're as close as we are, and I can honestly say, although I do love going out just as much as the next girl, I would much rather watch YouTube clips with Kelly and eat moose tracks ice cream.

Kelly: I remember coming home from clinicals and the first thing I would do when I got in the van was start to text Holly. First off to let her know I was heading home and second I wanted to talk about my day. Hey, she was genuinely interested. A lot of times a few of my classmates would be like "who are you texting?" "Why are you texting her?" "Aren't you going to see your sister in like 45 minutes?" Uh...problem? Most of the time I just ignored it. The thing about being us is that having Holly in my life builds up my relationship with Christ. We build up each other in Christ. We hold each other accountable. We pray for each other and we pray together. We talk about Scripture together and we talk about how God is working in our lives. We share in our triumphs and our tribulations. I know some of you are thinking "well shoot I have FRIENDS to do that." Yeah. So do I. But it's different...I can always have that face to face time with a fellow Christian if I need it. And the fact that we are blood related just adds to the bonus.

There are so many things about us that are out of the "norm." We'd rather, like Holly said, eat ice cream and watch YouTube videos than go to a nightclub for drinks. We'd rather talk and giggle about gorgeous Brits and God than about who's with who and who broke up with who. We'd rather stop the negativity than continue to fuel it. I know not everyone is like that, please don't misunderstand me.

On TV, I've heard of stories of people not hearing from or talking to their brothers/sisters for years. YEARS. Ok, let's think. I'm 22 now...gosh. I couldn't even imagine. Could not even IMAGINE not hearing from Holly for years. Now I'm not trying to put our relationship on a pedestal, but I'm merely sharing how special my sister is to me. She can make me laugh as easy as she can tick me off. But it's the way we are. We're human beings who just happen to have the same DNA. But to me it's so much more than shared DNA. It's those moments of laughter, crying, talking and so on that keep us both going. It's those moments that we will remember and thank God for. It's that love that people may try to find but only few actually get.

Change EVERYBODY can believe in!

Kelly: No, this has nothing to do with politics, I promise. It actually has to do with, well...us. Last night, Holly and I stayed up until the wee hours talking about everything. Everything on our minds, and our hearts. The conversation started with me, pondering over a very powerful sermon that was spoken. When I was about to go to sleep, I was thinking to myself about my walk in Christ. Ever since I re-affirmed my faith in Christ over three years ago, I as well as others have noticed a change in me. A positive change. But in the midst of yesterday's sermon, I realized that "a good change" isn't enough anymore. I have to be perfect. If we want to live a Christ-like life, then we ALL have to be perfect.

Sure, easier said than done, right? That was the first thing that popped into my head. Well gee, thanks for lowering my self-standards to the point of almost non-existence. HELLLLOOOOOO!!!!!! The flashers went off in my head. This life, that I am living, is NOT. ABOUT. ME. It never has been!!! People, readers, it's about choices. I by myself cannot be perfect, but with God I can. It says in His word: "With man, this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." Now please don't misunderstand me. I am in no way trying to preach. We are just sharing what is going on in our lives and what we are going to do about it. Anyway, while sitting in church, I realized that I do the "big things" as a Christian and I do them well, well...you know what I mean. But then I thought of the "little" things; in my opinion the things that should matter. Then, it hit me again; accountability. I've never really asked for it. Ever. Many times in the past I have gotten these ideas of how to be a "better" Christian and what I can do. Everything goes hunky-dory for about a week or two, then all of a sudden I can feel myself slipping back into my old ways. Nobody was there to keep tabs on me, so for me it was just really easy to forget about what I was wanting to change. Before I knew it, I let myself take over again.

This is where you (the readers) come in. The changes we are making, though are important, are between us and God. If you are interested in what they are, please feel free to ask and we will be happy to discuss them with you. However, our request is simple; every once in a while, however often you feel led to do so, if you wish to do so, just see how we're doing. Doesn't matter how you ask, but this is something we would really appreciate. Think about it, consider, and if not, well then, now you know what's going on in our world. :]

Holly: Something else that's been weighing on us for a bit, and this is especially for our Christian readers (but if you're not and still would like to contribute, by all means please feel free...any advice is sound and considered), is how we should read our Bibles.  Is there a right way?  Is there a wrong way?  How often?  How do you know what to read?  The thing is, I've tried the lists, the devotionals, but to me, it encourages passivity and the act of merely "checking things off a list".  aka TOTALLY missing the point of growing in the Word.  I've also tried reading whatever is on my mind for the day, and it goes ok for a bit, but then 2, 3, 4 days pass with nothing.  Are we making this more complicated than it needs to be?

Friends, please do not misunderstand us.  I love that my faith is being challenged right now.  I don't think you should EVER stop questioning what you believe in and why you do what you do.  That's my advice to you all: never stop questioning!

I cannot emphasize with Kelly enough: GET ON US ABOUT THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Please.  And pray for us.  The change thing is going to take some time, and our lives are going in very different directions now.   Thanks all.  :)

Home sweet home for a little while

Holly: The TV is on, which is something I'm not really used to.  There's a slight chill in the house.  I look outside my window and don't see any street lights or hear the sounds of narcoleptic students being unreasonably loud at unreasonable hours.  No traffic.  No sirens.  No noise.

Home.

Yes, spring break has arrived.  Yay!  Don't get me wrong, I'm practically Berea's number one fan, but I'm so ready to just be away for a while.  Although I really don't get that much of a break: I'm working on a lab notebook for one of my biology courses (that's 300-level but feels like a graduate level), reading a book for my biology capstone (that's 400-level but feels like a 100-level...I am NOT complaining, by the way), apartment-searching (although my sister is a goob and left the majority of the phone numbers at school.  Hey, ya gotta start somewhere, I reckon), continuing the ever-arduous job search,  and starting the even more arduous task of packing up some of my stuff here so I can get the bleep out of my parent's house in May (can you be excited and scared at the same time???????? I say yes).

And it's only a week.  Stay tuned.  :)

Kelly: Well as for me, this really won't be much of a break. I still have a lot of homework to do...BLAAAAH. Oh well, no rest for the weary I suppose. However, I have devoted some of the break for some quiet time with sis and my best friend. And once I get back on campus I will hopefully be rejuvenated enough to tackle the rest of what the semester holds for me!

During this break we are also taking another bold leap; starting the process of moving out! Yes. One day this week we will be spending it by sorting our stuff; keep, sell and toss. We hope we are successful and don't have as much to bring back to Berea...cross your fingers for no U-Hauls!!!! Also keep your fingers crossed that this week I hear about my CNA job and we also find a place to go in Berea. That is also on the agenda...even though we will only have 3 apartments to call since I am a ree-ree and forgot the apartment book of phone numbers in Berea in my desk drawer. Oops. And it's for this reason why we can't have anything nice!

That's all to report for now. We are looking very forward to this time off!

It all started on Friday...

Kelly: As most of you know, I got a crown for my old ugly gray tooth last Tuesday. Yay! It's all nice and purtyful, made of shimmery white porcelain. The process leading up to this was not easy; the tooth had been the way it was since I was in 6th grade. And now...boom. New shiny tooth.
Before tooth shot (this pic was taken in July on the day I got my new glasses)...

After (taken just a few days ago)
Well, everything was hunky dory until early Friday morning. I woke up to the sound of my dog whining at the bottom of our stairs, desperately needing to go outside. After I took her out, I laid back down and felt a strange throbbing where my crown was. Figuring I just slept on it weird, I went back to sleep. Woke up about an hour later and it was throbbing worse. So I called my dentist because I figured this was not normal and they told me to come in right away.

The dentist I saw was not my regular one, but he took an x-ray and discovered the problem; the root where my crown is was all yucky....infected. I was told I would have to have it redone eventually (had a previous root canal there when I was really young). Eventually was code for ASAP. The dentist made a few calls and found an endodontist in Lexington who could do the retreat. This was done today. Walked in at 4, had a few fits about insurance, got the retreat and left; took about an hour to do. My top gums were numb...took 5 shots of novacaine to numb the area around my very VERY painful tooth before I couldn't feel anything. In addition, I had two shots in my upper gum, two in the back behind my tooth and one near the roof of my mouth.

Went to Wal-mart to get my prescriptions filled: hello Lortab, prescription-strength ibuprofen and amoxicillin. Already have taken a Lortab and an ibuprofen....and it's finally starting to kick in after about half an hour. In about another hour I'll probably be passed out on the floor; already starting to feel a bit sleepy. I'll keep everyone informed about how I'm feeling, but in the meantime...LET'S GET BETTER!

Holly: I hate seeing my sister in pain.  Enough said.  Yes, LET'S GET BETTER! <3

First Day of Classes!!! w00t!!

Holly: Alas, Wednesday, August 24th, aka the first day of classes at wonderful Berea beloved!!!

For me, the day began at 9am with biochemistry.  I killed a wasp off of my dear roommate's desk...yep, just grabbed my notebook and WHAM! Poor dead little critter fell helplessly to the floor.  I was quite satisfied with myself...although this charade resulted in me being referred to as "the wasp killer" when the professor continued taking roll.  All I really have to say about this class is that you know it's going to be hard when said professor blatantly announces during the class (and writes clearly in the syllabus) something to the degree of "If you absolutely don't NEED this class, then don't bother."  Is now an appropriate time to say "gulp?"

300-level (conversational...aka nothing but speaking) Spanish followed in the afternoon.  Wow, am I rusty?!?! Enough of that.  But I think that once i devote the much, much, MUCH needed time in brushing up, then I will be just fine.

Histology (or for those biologically challenged...looking at tissues all day) immediately followed.  I am so stoked about that class!!! Hey, I'm a bio major.  What can I say?  And the professor is made of pure awesome.

The day ended with my senior seminar class at 4pm (which goes for 2 hours...drag.  However, it is only 2 days a week, so it's not terrible).  The topic is globalization and digital media technology...fascinating stuff! Can't wait to get into it more.  Bonus: I had the professor waaaaaayyyyyyyyyy back in my very first semester of college, and since he didn't manage to scare me away then, then I'm back again.  Or, a "glutton for punishment" as he so put today.

As for now, I just got back from BME (the gospel choir I am a part of), and, I am not joking, EVERY SINGLE CHAIR WAS FILLED WITH NEW PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't you tell that I'm just a little bit excited about that? :)

So, all in all, it's shaping up to be a difficult semester, but God has provided immensely for me since I have been here and I am confident that this semester will be no exception.  All things considering that I start my new job tomorrow and I am just ONE SEMESTER away from holding my degree in my hands!!!!!! !@#$%^&*()(*&^%$#!@#$%^&*()_(*&^%$#@!*I&^%$#@$%^&*( that's me being excited! :D

Thank you for reading.  blessings.

Kelly: Well, even though I have a less heavy class load, they're not going to be easy classes to say the least. Nursing for Children and Adults, Psychiatric nursing, Pathophysiology (study of diseases), and Black Music Ensemble, or the gospel choir that I sing in...I'm sure Holly mentioned it, so I don't want to be redundant.

I have only had psychiatric nursing, patho and BME today. Nursing for Children and Adults (you will see me refer to it often as Med/Surg), will not come until Friday. Patho is...big. It's my biggest class; there's over 40 of us. And for a school such as Berea, it's a big class. And it's only 2 days a week from 10-12. Presentations in that class will be....interesting. Each student has to do 3, and the first set is next Wednesday, so after we got done with class there was a massive b-line to the 4 rubrics for the 4 groups who will go next Wednesday. Needless to say my partner and I didn't stand a chance at going, but that's ok.

Psych nursing will be...incredibly difficult. Not physically difficult, but mentally, for me at least. I've never been in a situation where I am exposed to mentally fragile individuals. And my instructor said "prepare to be uncomfortable at times." Please send lots of good thoughts to me and my class of 18; I surmise it will not be easy for us. But my instructor is really funny...super funny actually. For now, that's about all for me; I won't spare the repeat details of BME, except that I am incredibly pumped and looking forward to this year. As a 6th semester member (garsh I'm old), it's the biggest I've ever seen it. And as a Chaplain I hopefully will try *ahem* try to remember everyone's name. Stay tuned for that one. Enjoy reading, our faithful readers. Cheers! And enjoy the funny pic of us at the end.
